Overview: <p dir="LTR">The Manager, Product Engineering Interior Architectural is responsible for leading and developing a team of product engineers that provide the engineering design, performance validation, and specification of innovative doors and door systems for Masonite&rsquo;s Architectural product category, and provide ongoing engineering support for the resolution of quality issues, product changes, design and approval of specials, and updating product drawings and specifications.</p> <p dir="LTR">As Product Engineering Manager, the incumbent stays abreast of and leads the implementation of best engineering practices and product engineering technologies for the product category. The Product Engineering Manager partners with the Director of Product Engineering and other MIC functional leaders to ensure resources are focused on the highest value-creating opportunities.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Actively participates and manages the day-to-day activities of a team of Product Engineer</li> <li>Craft engineering documentation (specifications, drawings, test reports) and manage all tasks leading up to a published and issued engineering documentation</li> <li>Contribute to the Engineering Change Process for the assigned product category.</li> <li>Evaluation, refinement, and (re-)qualification of <em>existing</em> product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance, process fit, testing, prototyping).</li> <li>Evaluation, refinement, and qualification of <em>new</em> product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance, process fit, testing, prototyping) as determined through the NPI stage-gate process incl. sub-project leadership for accountable deliverables.</li> <li>Keeps on top of technology development in related Engineering fields.</li> <li>Schedules, tracks and completes projects and assignments per business requirements on-time and on-budget.</li> <li>Manages resources. Requirements: <ul> <li>Leading and developing people and product engineering teams</li> <li>Proven success in product design of composites, wood and plastic components. Additional electro-mechanical knowledge a plus.</li> <li>Understanding of engineering with wood, composites, plastics, fiberglass, and adhesively bonded systems including understanding failure modes of these materials &amp; technologies of sealing, insulated (thermal &amp; sound), fire resistant composite systems. Related industry experience.</li> <li>Competent in engineering a product from scratch using fundamental engineering principles and best practices taking appropriate material selections and construction designs into consideration.</li> <li>Competent in leading and contributing to the development and engineering of innovative products that deliver significant business growth.</li> <li>Skilled in crafting engineering documentation (specifications, drawings, test reports. Working knowledge of&nbsp; computer drafting tools (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and Microsoft Office applications).</li> <li>A technical understanding of relevant manufacturing processes, i.e.; injection molding, SMC molding, extrusion, foam injection, lamination/ assembly processes of (wood-) composite products, and knowledge of Lean Sigma tools to oversee the application of technical skills in the identification of root causes and proposed solutions within the realm of product engineering aspects.</li> <li>DFMEA/ PFMEA, Lean/ Six Sigma Fundamentals</li> <li>Ability to evaluate and refine existing product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance, testing, prototyping).</li> <li>Multi-functional project leadership and communication skills</li> </ul> <p dir="LTR"><br /><strong>Education:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelors&rsquo; degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Chemical), or related field.&nbsp; Master&rsquo;s degree preferred</li> <li>5+ years relevant work experience as well as management/ development of technical staff (engineers, technicians, interns)</li> </ul> <div id="gtx-trans" style="position: absolute; left: -46px; top: -20px;">&nbsp;</div>
