Overview: <br /> <p>United Heartland is a leading regional workers&rsquo; compensation carrier with a high-touch service model and broad experience that allows us to be nimble and responsive to effectively manage large accounts with complex needs. This Field position handles large accounts across multiple states including Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Residing in a location central to this market (such as Kansas City) is preferred.</p> <p>Plans, organizes, leads, and controls the functions and operations of a specific region to achieve the established goals and objectives that contribute to the ongoing success and profitability of the Company. This position is responsible for leading the region to meet annual premium goals through new business and renewals while maintaining profitability and agency relations.<br /><br /><br /></p> <p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:</strong></p> <p>Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards. Regular travel is required with occasional overnight stays. Extensive auto travel requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid driver&rsquo;s license with no major violations.</p>
Responsibilities: <br /> <ul> <li>Develop and execute strategic and operational business plans, regional goals, and standards consistent with the company&rsquo;s vision and communicate to the regional workforce. Work with each discipline to strategize and plan for achieving goals and objectives to improve service to customers and agents.</li> <li>Oversee the business development operations of a region to achieve results and ensure service according to plan and established metrics.</li> <li>Oversee and direct ongoing high-quality service (information sharing/problem resolution) to internal and external customers.</li> <li>Works closely with Corporate Underwriting related to underwriting decisions.</li> <li>Develop and monitor the territory business plan and execute strategic priorities to maximize region&rsquo;s potential and to ensure the retention and acquisition of business including; premium projections, reviewing environmental factors, competitive climate, and customer and agent expectations.</li> <li>Communicate in writing and by telephone with agents, insured policyholders, attorneys, accountants, government and regulatory agencies. Ensure compliance with filings and state regulations in all jurisdictions where business is written.</li> <li>Consistently monitor workflows to maximize efficiency. Take key leadership role in ensuring the tools are in place to achieve objectives established for the region.</li> <li>Provide oversight and direction of unique and/or complex underwriting. Approve/decline underwriting, audit, and billing referrals when applicable.</li> <li>Serve as public relations liaison for the Business Development department with industry organizations, agency relations, and employees.</li> <li>Establish and implement long and short-term business strategies that reflect market competitive conditions at the local and national levels.</li> <li>Provide vision, leadership, planning, project coordination, and management for the development of a cost-effective department while concurrently facilitating efficient operations to meet current and future business needs within the organization.</li> <li>Represent company in community industry programs and conferences and the department on key committees or workgroups.</li> <li>Develop strong partnerships with internal departments and external customers.</li> <li>Develop annual unit budget, monitor budget, and identify budget discrepancies. Research causes of discrepancies and make adjustments or recommendations.&nbsp; &nbsp;</li> <li>Coordinate on-site meetings and off-site consultations with employers and agents.</li> <li>Responsibility for balancing workload to optimize the effectiveness of the department. Requirements: <br /> <p><strong>EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE:</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in insurance, business, or a related field.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Continuous learning required, as defined by the Company&rsquo;s learning philosophy.</li> <li>Certification, or progress toward, highly preferred and encouraged.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>EXPERIENCE:</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Ten years progressive responsibility in an underwriting environment with demonstrated technical knowledge that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.</li> <li>Five years demonstrated leadership in an underwriting environment. Workers Compensation experience required.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must demonstrate leadership ability and team-building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management.</li> <li>Extensive technical knowledge of insurance underwriting, marketing, and agency relations or relevant insurance expertise.</li> <li>Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards, codes, and health/safety issues.</li> <li>Knowledge of team-building and employee motivation theories with the ability to effectively manage multi-functional employee teams.</li> <li>Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team.</li> <li>Ability to effectively exchange information, in verbal or written form, by sharing ideas, reporting facts and other information, responding to questions, and employing active listening techniques.</li> <li>Thorough knowledge of the independent agency system.</li> <li>Excellent verbal/written communication, presentation, and customer service skills are essential.</li> <li>Must possess strong negotiation skills and decision-making ability.</li> <li>Ability to effectively present budgetary and/or cost information, and respond to questions as appropriate.</li> <li>Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects, and meet strict deadlines with high level of accuracy.</li> <li>Strong attention to detail and analytical skills required.</li> <li>Ability to maintain confidentiality.</li> <li>Ability and proficiency in the use of computers and company standard software specific to position.</li> <li>Ability to perform other assignments at locations outside the office.</li> </ul>
