Overview: Licensed professional archaeologist and cultural resource specialist, will lead and support project / program teams by performing technical aspects of projects, including archaeological and environmental fieldwork. Assists in maintaining project budgets and schedules; trains &amp; mentors staff; and serves as technical subject matter expert. In this role, an employee will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency related to the essential functions of the job as described below.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Develop, recommend, and implement project objectives and strategy reviews for clients:</li> <li>Assist Project Managers to identify project sites, identify environmental constraints, critical issues, baseline environmental studies, and project schedule support.</li> <li>Conduct archaeological fieldwork including monitoring, survey, testing, and data recovery. Serve as Field Director/Field Lead and direct field crews, including scheduling work and making individual or team work assignments and leading the instruction of others in the use of equipment, technology, and field methods.</li> <li>Serve as a Principal Investigator, based on level of experience and project complexity.</li> <li>Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units and iPads.</li> <li>Research federal/state/local requirements as directed by Project Managers and Team Leaders. Interpret and advise on cultural resource laws, regulations, and policies to effect good business decisions and successful project execution. Advise supervisors on emerging cultural resources statutes or regulations and the implications of these on projects.</li> <li>Communicate with Project Managers and Team Leaders on workload status, strategies for communication with clients, federal, state, and local agencies as appropriate.</li> <li>Keep records and maintain the relevant State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) documentation pertaining to cultural resources.</li> <li>Oversee summaries, figures, and graphs by tabulating analytical data, site data, and field notes.</li> <li>Assist in permitting and compliance, including non-federal due diligence:</li> <li>Draft, review, and finalize preliminary and final cultural resources reports, site forms, and tribal coordination documentation deliverables in accordance with industry standards. Make decisions about project alternatives, National Register evaluations, and effects on historic properties.</li> <li>Prepare and review permit applications for technical areas, including cultural resources; impact analyses; support public outreach; coordination with regulatory agencies and tribal/indigenous representatives.</li> <li>Complete tasks within budget and on schedule. Work with Subject Matter Expert/Project Manager/Project Coordinator to address comments on work products.</li> <li>Act as a primary or secondary contact for review agencies.</li> <li>Attend meetings and public hearings and compile meeting minutes for Project Manager/Project Coordinator review.</li> </ul>
Requirements: EDUCATION<br /> <ul> <li>Master&rsquo;s Degree required in Anthropology/Archaeology or related field. Must meet the Secretary of Interior Qualification Standards for Archaeology.</li> <li>Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) preferred.</li> </ul> <br />EXPERIENCE / SKILLS<br /> <ul> <li>Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of consulting experience in cultural resources or related field.</li> <li>Experience in the Midwest, Great Plains, and Rockies.</li> <li>Experience with technical cultural resources report writing and editing.</li> <li>Experience working with tribal/indigenous communities preferred.</li> <li>Demonstrate an intermediate understanding and application of the following:</li> <li>Accident reporting</li> <li>Confidentiality</li> <li>Plan interpretation</li> <li>Report and permit application writing</li> <li>Industry standard software and applications MS Office</li> <li>Problem solving and adaptation to the situation</li> <li>Current valid driver&rsquo;s license and the ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads required.</li> </ul>
