Senior Director

Overview: <br />The Managing Director, Chief TPO Architect will be responsible for establishing technology and architecture standards within Advantasure and coordinating and aligning those standards with the broader BCBSM enterprise architecture community. The Chief Architect and his team will also lead the peer review of proposed architecture and technology decisions across Advantasure and provide feedback and consultative support to the product teams. Serves as a key member of the TPO leadership team.<br /><br /> <p><strong>WORKING CONDITIONS:</strong></p> <p>Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards.</p>
Responsibilities: <br /> <ul> <li>Establish and manage the &ldquo;Chief Architect&rsquo;s Office&rdquo;, comprising a small number of highly skilled and experienced IT architects with skills across business, application, infrastructure, and data domains</li> <li>Responsible for balancing workload to optimize the effectiveness of the Chief Architect&rsquo;s Office.</li> <li>Manage the Advantasure Architecture Review Board and lead the peer review of all Advantasure technology solutions</li> <li>Partner closely with the Product Development teams to ensure complete integration and interoperability of solutions across the overall Advantasure product suite.</li> <li>Responsible for establishing and enhancing formal integrated architecture plans including up-to-date architecture roadmaps and future state maps.</li> <li>Act as a multi-disciplinary technology leader, coaching development teams and coordinating with peers across the BCBSM architecture community, industry experts, technology vendors, business partners, and other relevant 3rd parties to inform technology solutions across the company</li> <li>Provide expert advice on industry and technology trends and on solutions to complex architecture challenges.</li> <li>Influence senior leaders and all levels of business and technology staff on all areas of architecture and technology including policies, standards, strategies, and governance.</li> <li>Assure IT and Business Leadership that architecture principles and standards are reasonably set and consistently applied.</li> <li>Coordinate the career development of all architecture resources across Advantasure, including encouragement of rotation across architecture and other technical roles across both Advantasure and the larger BCBSM architecture community</li> <li>Participate in the evaluation, hiring, and sourcing of new architecture resources within Advantasure</li> <li>Ensures comprehensive and complete work practices and processes are in place and effective.</li> <li>Responsible and accountable for communication of Advantasure architecture and technology principles and practices across Advantasure and the BCBSM enterprise</li> <li>Participate in development of annual departmental budget, monitor budget, and identify budget discrepancies.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <br /> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>DIRECTION EXERCISED:</strong></p> <p>Directly supervises exempt and non-exempt staff in accordance with company policies and applicable Federal and State Laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively interviewing, hiring, terminating, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; supporting and encouraging the engagement process.</p>
Requirements: <br /> <p><strong>EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in computer science or related field.&nbsp;</li> <li>Advanced degree in related field preferred.&nbsp;</li> <li>Combinations of relevant education, certifications, and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.&nbsp;</li> <li>Continuous learning, as defined by the Company&rsquo;s learning philosophy, is required.&nbsp;</li> <li>Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>EXPERIENCE:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ten years of progressive technology architecture responsibility, preferably with at least one year of Enterprise Architecture experience, in a business environment with demonstrated technical knowledge which provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities. &nbsp;</li> <li>Five years management or supervisory experience required.</li> <li>Strong preference for specific experience in US Healthcare markets in a technology or architecture role.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Deep understanding of Information technology (IT) systems and processes across applications, infrastructure, and data domains; expertise should include Scaled Agile Framework, DevOps, Cloud Computing, Data Governance, and other critical technology development and operations practices</li> <li>Strong knowledge of competitive landscape and industry trends in emerging technologies.</li> <li>Expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks, including the Open Architecture Framework (TOGAF), and the NIST Enterprise Architecture Model, as well current architecture approaches including Microservices and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)</li> <li>Familiarity with IT Governance approaches including information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Control Objectives for information and related Technology (COBIT)</li> <li>Familiarity with project management practices across both Agile and Waterfall development approaches, including processes, methodologies, roles and responsibilities, and deliverable management</li> <li>Strong leadership abilities, specifically related to influencing technology decisions without direct line accountability</li> <li>Adequate financial analysis skills to enable assessment and communication of value tradeoffs related to technology decisions in language relevant to business leadership</li> <li>Excellent analytical and technical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and planning and organizational skills.</li> <li>Ability to balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions</li> <li>Must demonstrate team building and management skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team.</li> <li>Ability to effectively exchange information, in verbal or written form, by sharing ideas, reporting facts and other information, responding to questions, and employing active listening techniques.</li> <li>Ability to effectively present budgetary and/or cost information and respond to questions as appropriate.</li> <li>Ability to establish workflows, manages multiple projects, and meets necessary deadlines.</li> </ul>
