Overview: <p>Oversees and manages all aspects of the company&rsquo;s commercial underwriting department; Establishes guidelines for accepting or declining risks; Establishes and monitors key performance metrics for the underwriting function.</p> <p>Serves as primary underwriting liaison to independent agents, sales and marketing personnel, product development personnel and other operating functions of the company.</p> <p>For large or complex accounts, ability to perform or direct all policy underwriting functions including accepting or declining risks; Determining appropriate terms and limits.</p> <p>Supervises commercial underwriters; Monitors Underwriter workflow and performance; Prepares periodic performance evaluations, Monitors department staffing needs and makes staffing recommendations to senior management.<br /><br /></p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>Essential Job Functions</strong></p> <ul> <li>Responsible for assigning new business submissions to Underwriters for review and quoting</li> <li>Responsible for monthly assigning of renewal policies to Underwriters for quoting;</li> <li>Maintaining work load balance for Underwriting staff;</li> <li>Manages underwriting file audits performed to ensure adherence to guidelines and procedures;</li> <li>Manages authority level matrix based on policy premium, values, construction type, age etc.;</li> <li>Ensures service level expectations are met and maintained; identifies critical key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Underwriting department; Monitors department performance against KPIs.</li> <li>Creates and demonstrates environment of accountability for Underwriting staff;</li> <li>Provides written periodic performance evaluations including honest and constructive feedback;</li> <li>Builds and maintains strong, positive relationships with Underwriting staff;</li> <li>Develops Underwriting staff through training, mentoring and coaching.</li> <li>Ability to handle select large value new business submissions and prepare quotations; make determinations regarding facultative reinsurance coverage and authorize individual policies</li> <li>Attend agent conventions; Perform routine agency visits; Build and maintain key agency relationships</li> <li>Other duties as assigned.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>Education and/or Experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Listed below are the minimum requirements for job entry.</li> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Business, Risk Management &amp; Insurance, Economics or similar field.</li> <li>Eight or more years of commercial lines insurance underwriting experience.</li> <li>Minimum two or more years managing a commercial underwriting team.</li> <li>AU and AINS designations required; CPCU preferred.</li> <li>Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, including Excel &amp; Microsoft Word</li> <li>Proficient in underwriting, billing and claims systems software packages.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Physical Requirements/Working Conditions</strong></p> <p>Listed below are representative of those required on the job.
