Overview: The Underwriting Assistant provides support to commercial lines insurance underwriters and independent agents by analyzing applications under guidance of underwriters, issuing policies and endorsements, responding to billing inquiries, and performing related account servicing functions
Responsibilities: <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Essential Functions</strong></span> <br />Functions listed are intended to illustrate thee various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. <br />Evaluates applications with guidance from underwriters/supervisor to prequalify applicants by: <ul> <li>Examining applications, supplemental questionnaires, and loss experience to confirm eligibility;</li> <li>Communicating with agents regarding application status and documentation requirements;</li> <li>Maintaining records on all submission activity and account files;</li> <li>Preparing submissions for underwriting review and quoting.</li> </ul> Issues policies, including: <br /> <ul> <li>▪ Reviewing bound quotes for accuracy;</li> <li>Requesting documents as needed to complete the underwriting file;</li> <li>Examining signed applications to ensure accuracy;</li> <li>Addressing billing queries regarding payments;</li> <li>Ordering inspections; following up for missing information, as needed</li> <li>Processes endorsement requests with guidance from underwriters/supervisors</li> <li>Generates loss run reports as needed</li> <li>Performs other job-related duties as required.</li> </ul>
Requirements: Skills and Competencies <br /> <ul> <li>Customer Focus: Sets and maintains high standards for service to both internal and external customers.</li> <li>Industry Expertise: Establishes and begins building industry expertise, including a fundamental understanding of commercial insurance underwriting, risk analysis, agent relations, industry trends, and regulations.</li> <li>Collaboration: Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others across the organization to meet objectives.</li> <li>Professional Communication: Develops and delivers communications that are professional, courteous, clear and understood.
