Full-Time

Overview: Provides legal advice in the areas of litigation management, claims management, compliance,<br />product, general corporate governance and general business law matters. Actively manages claims litigation on a daily<br />basis by communicating with counsel, maintaining diaries, documenting claim files, conducting legal research and<br />writing, and advising leadership of implemented strategies and developments pertaining to litigation matters. Exercises<br />independent judgment and discretion.
Responsibilities: Functions listed are intended to illustrate the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not<br />exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.<br /> <ul> <li>Assist Claims Management team with complex legal matters. Investigate, evaluates, reserves and negotiate and settle assigned claims in accordance with best practices</li> <li>Provide quality claim handling and uncompromising customer service on all claims. Manage and assign outside defense Counsel to manage legal services.</li> <li>Engage in indemnity and expense management</li> <li>Analyze and evaluate insurance coverage issues</li> <li>Provide high level summaries of litigated files to management as needed</li> <li>Attend mediation, depositions or other examinations in person</li> <li>Effectuate the internal legal function for a commercial property insurer by acting as a generalist with a focus on (i) managing litigation; (ii) advising on the legal aspects of insurance claims handling; and (iii) interacting with associated departments of insurance to accomplish company missions and goals.</li> <li>Provide advice and guidance on the resolution of policy contract issues, regulatory investigations, complaints and other adversarial matters</li> <li>Draft, review and support the negotiation of commercial agreements, including the service providers, employment and severance agreements</li> <li>Work with other outside counsel to develop project scope and fee estimates; review work product and invoices for accuracy</li> <li>Advise associated departments of insurance as to various legal issues through memoranda, meeting, training and discussion</li> <li>Provide functional advice and work closely with department leaders to ensure processes and procedures promote the efficient and consistent conduct of company business for compliance purposes</li> <li>Provide training to company and its affiliated legal entities on substantive legal topics</li> </ul>

Tailors communications to the needs of different audiences.</li> <li>Attention to Detail: Performs tasks with a high degree of accuracy and precision.</li> <li>Time Management: Responds in a timely manner and completes tasks efficiently and effectively.</li> </ul> Education and Experience:<br /> <ul> <li>Juris Doctorate degree and a minimum two (2) years of litigation experience in commercial property insurance.</li> <li>Previous claims experience and/or solid understanding of claims environment.</li> <li>Knowledge of insurance laws and perform case investigation.</li> <li>Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word.</li> <li>Works well in a team environment.</li> </ul>
