Reporting to the Director of Engineering, we need a Development Manager to direct and lead a team of technical professionals located in Toronto. This is an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with hands-on experience in modern 3D design and metalworks including fixtures, welds and joints. A Development Manager to grow the team&rsquo;s collective capabilities with a focus on strengthening engineering talent within Array. Responsibilities: <p><strong>What our new Development Manager will do:</strong></p> <ul> <li><em><strong>Lead, develop and mentor all direct reports.</strong></em>&nbsp;Conduct performance management reviews and implement development plans. Establish goals and objectives for each team member.</li> <li><em><strong>Develop a long-term strategic direction.</strong></em>&nbsp;Improve the overall cost of engineering while maintaining our high quality standards. Implement software and systems that can strengthen and enhance productivity. Make VA/VE in the engineering phase a cornerstone of all engineer concepts</li> <li><em><strong>Direct and oversee all phases of engineering development</strong></em>. Work directly with the Project Managers, Design Department and Model Shop to establish expectations, deliverables and timing on assigned projects. Manage the overall schedule of the entire team.</li> <li><em><strong>Encourage innovative solution.</strong></em>&nbsp;Support creative exploration to address design for manufacturability (DFM). Represent customer product engineering requirements in plant level decisions. Evaluate, analyze and initiate corrective action relative to design and performance.</li> <li><em><strong>Quality improvement.</strong></em>&nbsp;Develop failure analysis and problem solving (8D process) to improve product design and to prevent recurrence of product design related problems. Develop training programs to increase the capabilities of the team to solve problems and create better designs that meet customer requirements for form, fit and function. Recommend measures to improve process methods, team performance and quality of work. Utilize Continuous Improvement tools and apply 5S standards to the department</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>So, how do we know you are the new Development Manager? You have:</strong></p> <ul> <li><em><strong>The education.</strong></em>&nbsp;A degree in Engineering or equivalent.</li> <li><em><strong>The experience.</strong></em>&nbsp;5+ years experience leading, building and managing teams. Expertise in product design for manufacturability including fabrication, molding, machining and finishing products.</li> <li><em><strong>The technical knowledge.</strong></em>&nbsp;Hands-on experience using modern 3D design techniques, SolidWorks in particular. Expertise working with sheet metal, Injection Molding and Machining. Proficiency with MS Office Suite including Excel and Access.</li> <li><em><strong>The interpersonal skills.</strong></em>&nbsp;Outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills. Expert ability to build relationships and collaborate within and across teams, from the manufacturing shop upwards to C-level executives. Confidence to take a stand, defend your decision and hear the opposition.</li> <li><em><strong>The leadership ability.</strong></em>&nbsp;A motivator, a coach, an advisor. People look to you for direction in a crisis and strategic guidance on a daily basis. Comfortable facing adversity head on; a high sense of urgency and expertly balance multiple deliverables across many projects simultaneously.
