Overview: The Labour Relations Officer is responsible for providing complex, professional, and administrative services in support of the Labour Relations team. This role must build working relationships with our members and Union leadership.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Coordinate with LR Managers to research the facts regarding grievances and pay claims and draft responses.</li> <li>Review employee disciplinary files and provides suggested disciplinary action to LRM, draft disciplinary complaints. Coordinate file preparation and represent the Association with applicable LR Manager.&nbsp; In time, present case at expedited arbitration.</li> <li>Assist LR Managers at meetings with union officials to resolve grievances and issues prior to arbitrations.</li> <li>Attend arbitration hearings on unresolved/unsettled grievances with LR Managers.</li> <li>Assist the Labour Relations team with hosted Labour Relations training provided to employers.</li> <li>Recommend action plans on dealing with complaints, assists in the development of investigation questions, recommends performance management strategies including appropriate levels of discipline, advises on the content and structure of disciplinary/counseling letters and ensures effective resolution of issues.</li> <li>Participate and represents the department in the Medical Exemption Committee.</li> <li>Assist in the preparation for negotiations: researches and organizes industry data, assists in the consultation process and assists in the development of employer proposals.</li> <li>Researche labour arbitration and case law decisions when requested and obtains legal opinions as necessary and when required.</li> <li>Oversee Regular Workforce postings and provides direction to Labour Relations Assistant.</li> <li>Oversee Board Audits on a quarterly basis and processes Board moves monthly.</li> <li>Attend Industry meetings at LR Manager&rsquo;s request. Takes minutes/notes and provides advice when required.</li> <li>tracking and reporting of drug and alcohol data.</li> <li>Keep up-to-date with D&amp;A Arbitral Jurisprudence and/or Policy application changes, e.g. drafting industry Job Aides/Update Reports.</li> <li>Recruitment Liason: act as the LR representative during industry recruitment, which includes oversight of the vetting process.</li> <li>Oversee administration and application of the Industry Criminal Record Check Policy. Primary contact for Stirling Backcheck.</li> <li>Lead and oversees the Personal Leave process and data tracking on this. In addition, serves as key LR contact for WEBC on all leave matters.</li> <li>Participate in Department KRAs and project work as assigned.&nbsp;</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>University degree in a related field of study, complemented by an interest in or experience in labour relations</li> <li>Thorough knowledge of human resources principles, labour relations methods and procedures</li> <li>Self-starter</li> <li>Excellent time management and problem-solving skills</li> <li>Outstanding written and verbal communication skills</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills</li> <li>Member service-oriented attitude</li> <li>Ability to display sound judgement, often in fast paced and fluid situations</li> </ul>
