Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Waterfront Training Centre, the Operations Supervisor - WTC is responsible for day-to-day management of worksite operations at the BCMEA&rsquo;s Waterfront Training Centre.&nbsp; <p>The Operations Supervisor will provide regular coaching, guidance and evaluation for trainers to ensure trainees receive fair, consistent, effective and timely training within specified timelines and budgets. The safety of each and every person at the Waterfront Training Centre is paramount and will be at the core of all activities.<br /><br />This role is a rotational role working between day shift and afternoon shift on a defined schedule of 2 weeks each. There will be times when this will be adjusted depending on schedules.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Responsible for facilitating day to day training activities at the Waterfront Trianing Centre (WTC)</li> <li>Responsible for overseeing all activity at the WTC, including work performed by contractors, trainers, trainees and trades; at times alone on a rotational shift basis of afternoons and days</li> <li>Ensuring the trainers are following the training delivery plans, safety of the training activities are maintained and evaluation core compencies are being signed off</li> <li>Project management support for Terminal expansions, BCMEA expansions and installation of new equipment that requires training of workers in advance of going live</li> <li>Responsible for the quality of training programs at the WTC to ensure that rated workers will be able to productively and safely perform work for our members</li> <li>Maintaining the safety and quality of our training operations&nbsp;</li> <li>Managing the work of unionized trainers, trainees, coordinators and regular workforce</li> <li>Fostering collaborative working relationships with member company representatives, union trainers and coordinators</li> <li>Supporting Operations Supervisors, trainers and trainees by ensuring they have appropriate materials, facilities and equipment</li> <li>Analyzing existing training programs to and assessing quality and efficacy; develop actions where deficiencies exist</li> <li>Soliciting training program improvement recommendations from trainers and industry representatives</li> <li>Validating course content ensuring that it is current, relevant and meets regulatory compliance</li> <li>Collaborating with subject matter experts and technical advisors to determine training needs and objectives</li> <li>Monitoring and approving exceptional training circumstances. Ensures justification for training outside of budgets</li> <li>Arranging and supervising re-training, evaluation and documentation as required</li> <li>Ensures BCMEA management rights are represented</li> <li>Investigating circumstances of accidents and incidents</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>University degree in business, engineering, logistics and/or professional development in Health and Safety and 5+ years supervisory experience preferred. Increased supervisory experience would be considered</li> <li>Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse and heavily unionized workforce</li> <li>Strong analytical aptitude, proven research skills and the ability to assess and interpret data</li> <li>Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage others professionally on sensitive issues</li> <li>Previous experience delivering on-the-job training, particularly in a unionized environment, is an asset <ul> <li>Alternative experience coaching and mentoring on the job in a unionized environment acceptable</li> </ul> </li> <li>Good oral and written communication skills</li> <li>Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving and the ability to resolve issues in a timely manner</li> <li>Ability to successfully manage personnel and multiple projects on time and on budget</li> <li>Self-motivated and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision</li> <li>Advanced user of Microsoft 365</li> <li>Driver&rsquo;s License and access to own vehicle required</li> <li>Experience driving a collaborative safety culture</li> <li>Transport Security Clearance Eligible</li> </ul>
