Overview: The <strong>Instructional Designer</strong> develops digital and print training materials and supports training initiatives across the waterfront industry through printing, design, writing, photography, audio, and video production.
Responsibilities: <ol> <li><strong>Printing </strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Print training documents and materials to required output (copier, poster printer, PDF) using appropriate printer settings.</li> <li>Prepare and assemble training documentation for program delivery.</li> <li>Oversee daily printer operations such as replacing toner, resolving jams, loading specialty paper and staples, and managing waste toner; work closely with the IS Care team to address technical issues.</li> <li>Source and manage third-party printing &ndash; approve proofs, monitor progress.</li> </ul> <ol start="2"> <li><strong>Technical Writing</strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to collect information as required.</li> <li>Write and edit training related content.</li> <li>Make content easily understandable for the trainees, use clear and concise language, and structure content logically.</li> </ul> <ol start="3"> <li><strong>Digital Media</strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Capture photos, video, and audio content for training purposes as needed.</li> <li>Manage and maintain a centralized training media library.</li> <li>Edit media files to meet technical requirements and visual standards.</li> </ul> <ol start="4"> <li><strong>Content Design and Development</strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Use tools such as graphic design software, photo and video editing programs, and AI applications to create content that supports training programs.</li> <li>Produce and publish key training documents, including sourcebooks, delivery plans, and evaluations.</li> <li>Create and publish effective training videos, as well as digital and printable support materials.</li> <li>Maintain and update training documents and materials as needed.</li> </ul> <ol start="5"> <li><strong>E-learning</strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Work with subject matter experts to identify training goals and outcomes.</li> <li>Storyboard and visualize user interface, activities, and the finished product.</li> <li>Work with subject matter experts to develop content.</li> <li>Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.).</li> <li>Create assessment tools, including quizzes and knowledge checks, to enhance learning retention and reinforce key concepts.</li> <li>Author and produce eLearning modules. Test and troubleshoot.</li> <li>Organize and manage project files.</li> <li>Review and update as required.</li> </ul> <ol start="6"> <li><strong>LMS Administration</strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Upload, organize, and maintain content.</li> <li>Set up and manage user accounts, groups, and permissions.</li> <li>Configure and customize the LMS, including automated messages and reports.</li> <li>Generate reports as requested.</li> <li>Monitor LMS usage and performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and liaise with service provider to resolve issues.</li> <li>Provide end user support.</li> </ul> <ol start="7"> <li><strong>Document Libraries Management</strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Update and maintain training related document libraries. Provide and monitor access to libraries.</li> <li>Maintain key documents archives; store and organize documents over time.</li> <li>Maintain the integrity and naming convention.</li> <li>Provide old versions as requested.</li> <li>Edit XML files for internal file libraries.</li> </ul> <ol start="8"> <li><strong>Projects</strong></li> </ol> <ul> <li>Perform assigned tasks within the project plan and deadlines.</li> <li>Work effectively with other team members and stakeholders.</li> <li>Identify and communicate roadblocks or issues to the project team.</li> <li>Share information, expertise, and knowledge with other team members.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>2 to 5 years of experience as an Instructional Designer with an undergraduate degree from an accredited post-secondary school institution.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and subject matter experts.</li> <li>Effective communicator with a customer-focused approach.</li> <li>Understanding of learning theories and instructional design models.</li> <li>Experience designing &amp; delivering technical content is an asset.</li> <li>Effective time management skills, ability to multitask and adapt to changing timelines.</li> <li>Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to stay organized</li> <li>Strong writing and editing skills.</li> <li>Experience in photography and cinematography is an asset.</li> <li>Strong design skills and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite tools to create engaging materials.</li> <li>Experience with Microsoft 365, including SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.</li> <li>Experience with digital printing and copying.</li> <li>Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), and authoring tools (Articulate 360)</li> <li>Familiarity with AI tools in design and development (ChatGPT, WellSaidLabs, etc.).</li> </ul>
