Overview: <br />The Student Success Advisor provides academic and personal advising and case management services to a cohort group of approximately 400 undergraduate students (actual cohort size fluctuates from semester to semester, depending on the incoming class size). Specific responsibilities include: advising students through course selection and registration; overseeing the progress of students on academic probation; approving leave of absences and course withdrawals; approving exam excuses; and approving advanced placement credits, among other academic services; providing referral and follow-up services to students in personal crisis; working collaboratively with partner offices to ensure students receive timely information and support related to their Babson experience; and may assist with developmental programming and one or more of the following areas: transfer and first-generation students, approving off-campus courses and facilitating credits to transcripts, undergraduate awards ceremonies, December graduation, departmental websites, social media accounts, and class listservs, analysis of various data sets, and the waiver exam process.
Responsibilities: <br /> <ul> <li>Advise students on course selection and registration; develop learning plans and academic plans with advisees.</li> <li>Provide referrals and appropriate support for students experiencing concerns with personal matters affecting them (either personally or from another source). Examples include: substance abuse, eating issues, family and other relationship concerns, harassment, etc.</li> <li>Discuss with students, and make appropriate referrals on, concerns regarding grades, faculty, and ability to successfully complete a course of study.</li> <li>Track and review students who are over- or under-enrolled in courses.</li> <li>Advise students on course options while on Education Abroad experiences.</li> <li>Approve individual course withdrawals beyond add/drop deadline in consultation with the Director, Student Advising &amp; Success.</li> <li>Collaborate with the Registrar on the certification process of the undergraduates.</li> <li>Collaborate with the Director, Student Advising &amp; Success, to approve and process advanced credit from high school (e.g., AP, IB, Swiss Matura, French Baccalaureate, and other college-level coursework taken in high school).</li> <li>Collaborate with the Director, Student Advising &amp; Success, to approve off-campus courses and facilitate credits to transcripts.</li> <li>Review requests for exam excuses, in compliance with College policy, and issue approvals/denials, as appropriate.</li> <li>Refer students to Center for Career Development for internship and career planning.</li> <li>Review requests for leaves of absence and advise students on non-medical and voluntary withdrawals from the College.</li> <li>Monitor academic progress of students on academic probation and those returning from an academic suspension.</li> <li>Work closely with the Director, Student Advising &amp; Success, regarding students of concern.</li> <li>Act as a resource for students involved in the College community standards process.</li> <li>Support all students and allow for professional growth; create programming and student development opportunities as needed.&nbsp;</li> <li>Work closely with campus partners to address a range of student issues and concerns.</li> <li>Assume additional responsibilities as required.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <br /> <p><strong>WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li><strong>Master&rsquo;s degree (Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field)</strong></li> <li>A minimum of <strong>1-2 years of experience working with college students in an advising capacity</strong></li> <li>Must have a background in academic advising and support</li> <li>Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and faculty</li> <li>Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Workday, and Salesforce Advisor Link</li> <li>Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff, and faculty</li> <li>Must be flexible and willing to assume new tasks and special projects.</li> <li>Must be capable of effectively managing a student crisis and following up with all appropriate parties in support of their academic, personal, and professional success.</li> <li>Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&amp;A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.</li> <li>Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.</li> <li>Must have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>All Babson College faculty and staff authorized to work on campus must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/stay-up-to-date.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">including any appropriate boosters</a>. Proof of vaccination upon hire is required or within 21 days of becoming eligible for a booster.
