Overview: The Per Diem Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with the Health Services team on an as needed basis to provide preventive, episodic, and ongoing health care to Babson undergraduate and graduate students, as well as students from the Olin College of Engineering. The role also includes opportunities to support Summer Programs by providing onsite medical care, medication oversight, and management of health records for the Summer at Babson program serving rising high school juniors and seniors (ages 16&ndash;18). <br /><br />Health Services is part of the Student Success portfolio in the Division of Learner Success and Campus Life, which also includes Accessibility Services; Case Management and the Campus Assessment, Response &amp; Evaluation (CARE Team; Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Office of First-Generation Student Success; Student Advising &amp; Success and Wellness &amp; Prevention Services.<br /><br /><strong>About Babson Student Success:</strong><br /><br />Taking an integrative, synergetic, student-centered approach to developing entrepreneurial leaders by providing a seamless and supportive living-learning environment that prioritizes self-advocacy, health, and well-being as central to academic, personal, and professional success.<br /><br /> <p><br />This is a non-exempt position with the following pay rate: $60.00. This position includes paid sick leave where required by law. Eligibility, accrual, and usage will follow applicable state and local regulations.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Evaluate and treat acute medical conditions, including obtaining a comprehensive history, performing physical examinations,&nbsp;ordering&nbsp;and interpreting pertinent lab tests, and prescribing&nbsp;appropriate medications&nbsp;following established guidelines.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assess and manage chronic health conditions and ongoing health maintenance needs, including developing&nbsp;evidence-based&nbsp;treatment plans and prescribing medications within&nbsp;scope.&nbsp;</li> <li>Coordinate referrals to outside clinical specialists and ensure appropriate&nbsp;follow-up&nbsp;on consultation outcomes.&nbsp;</li> <li>Communicate&nbsp;follow-up&nbsp;plans clearly to students, including rationale, next steps, and&nbsp;follow-up&nbsp;on abnormal or pending lab results.&nbsp;</li> <li>Provide health education and counseling to support students in achieving and&nbsp;maintaining&nbsp;optimal&nbsp;well-being.&nbsp;</li> <li>Collaborate with Health &amp; Wellness colleagues&nbsp;and other campus departments&nbsp;on outreach initiatives and prevention programs.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assist, as needed, in raising awareness of Health Services as a campus resource.&nbsp;</li> <li>Establish rapport and communicate effectively to ensure student comfort and trust in clinical encounters.&nbsp;</li> <li>Participate in Student Affairs activities and committees as needed.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><em>Summer Program(s):<br /><br /></em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Review&nbsp;required health documents and communicate any pertinent medical needs to parents and designated program staff.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Administer&nbsp;medications and provide nursing interventions and first aid to participants, as needed.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assess&nbsp;medical concerns, provide emergency care, and coordinate referrals to appropriate medical facilities.&nbsp;</li> <li>Maintain&nbsp;accurate, up-to-date medical records and logs for all treatments and medication administration.</li> <li>Follow&nbsp;standing orders issued by the Director of Health Services and report all serious concerns or incidents promptly to the summer Program team(s).&nbsp;</li> <li>Communicate&nbsp;with parents and the Babson Summer Programs office&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;participant health concerns, updates, or follow-up needs.&nbsp;</li> <li>Complete&nbsp;mandated reports for serious incidents or illnesses&nbsp;in accordance with&nbsp;Department of Health guidelines.&nbsp;</li> <li>Participate&nbsp;in camp orientation and training sessions and support general camp programming when&nbsp;appropriate.&nbsp;</li> <li>Provide&nbsp;consistent availability throughout the summer program, either on a weekly schedule or as a substitute nurse.</li> <li>Assume&nbsp;additional&nbsp;responsibilities as&nbsp;required.&nbsp;</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; MSN required.</strong>&nbsp;</li> <li><strong>A minimum of 3&ndash;5 years of clinical experience as a Family, Women&rsquo;s Health, or Adult Nurse Practitioner.&nbsp;</strong></li> <li><strong>Current national NP certification, Massachusetts and Federal prescribing authorization, and CPR certification.&nbsp;</strong></li> <li><strong>Must have Hepatitis B vaccination and training in compliance with OSHA regulations; must maintain both throughout time in the position.</strong></li> <li>Excellent organizational,&nbsp;oral&nbsp;and written communication skills.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability to&nbsp;maintain&nbsp;strict confidentiality in alignment with institutional policies and professional standards.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and Health Services staff.&nbsp;</li> <li>Demonstrated passion for college health and understanding of student development.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability to provide inclusive, culturally responsive care to a diverse student population.&nbsp;</li> <li>A positive attitude,&nbsp;strong&nbsp;empathy,&nbsp;and a demonstrated&nbsp;passion for&nbsp;supporting adolescent and&nbsp;college-aid populations.&nbsp;</li> <li>Must have <strong>knowledge of state immunization laws and experience with administering vaccines, medications and medical treatments.</strong></li> <li>Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing needs, conditions, or priorities.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&amp;A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.</li> <li>Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks.</li> <li>Must have strong computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.</li> </ul> <strong><br />HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Must be able to sit, walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.</li> <li>Occasionally requires the ability to assist a patient with mobility/to stand or walk.</li> <li>Potential exposure to communicable diseases through direct contact and through handling of biological specimens will be minimized by strict adherence to OSHA regulations, office procedures and the use of personal protective equipment.</li> <li>Scheduled weekly hours: Up to 40 per week as needed.</li> <li>Summer program opportunities begin May 1 with a combination of&nbsp;in person&nbsp;and remote work focused on immunization compliance. Throughout July (July 1&ndash;31), nurses will provide either weekly or substitute&nbsp;in person&nbsp;coverage for the summer program&rsquo;s health office.&nbsp;Specific hours will be assigned in advance. No overnight shifts.</li> <li>During the academic year shifts are in person Mondays &ndash; Thursdays between the hours of 8:30 am &ndash; 6:30 pm and Fridays from 8:30 am &ndash; 4:30 pm; summer and school break hours are 8:30 am &ndash; 4:30 pm.</li> <li>Occasional availability outside of regular hours for scheduled events such as flu clinics and new student orientation sessions.&nbsp;</li> <li>Remote work for immunization compliance may be considered.</li> <li>This position is&nbsp;designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), who&nbsp;by virtue of their&nbsp;College&nbsp;responsibilities and under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, is an individual to which students and employees should report criminal offenses.  A CSA shall&nbsp;forward&nbsp;all reports in accordance with the College&rsquo;s reporting&nbsp;structure so they may be assessed for&nbsp;timely&nbsp;warning, inclusion in the daily crime log and inclusion in annual statistical disclosures.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;<br /><br /><strong>ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE:<br /><br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>Phlebotomy and point of care testing experience a plus.&nbsp;</li> <li>Experience with Medicat electronic record system a plus.</li> <li>Knowledge of Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS) a plus.</li> <li>Experience with diabetes management including routine monitoring and patient education.&nbsp;</li> </ul>
