Overview: The Packaging Engineer provides design and engineering support to the Marketing and Operations Departments for all product packaging. The products to be packaged will include a variety of liquid and/or viscous products. In addition, the position leads Continuous improvement projects related to: new product development, procurement category strategies, supplier development processes, and strategic OEE initiatives. This is a highly visible position that requires excellent ability to work across the entire organization, from the factory floor to senior-level meetings. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Developing and supporting primary and secondary packaging for new products</li> <li>Delivering technical guidance and packaging engineering support</li> <li>Developing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, plants, co-manufacturers, and other sources of applicable technologies</li> <li>Accountability for the creation and maintenance of packaging specifications</li> <li>Organize and conduct trials and scale-ups of prototype packaging</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelors Degree in Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry</li> <li>Ability to trouble-shoot business critical issues in real time</li> <li>Ability to guide translation of design sketches to engineering drawings and CAD databases</li> <li>Excellent communications skills (verbal and written) - able to present information in clear, concise format to all levels within the organization.</li> <li>Excellent project management skills, especially in multi-functional team settings.</li> <li>Analytical and creative problem solver.</li> <li>A true Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Packaging to serve as a credible source of information and recommendations.</li> <li>Self-directed individual who can take the lead on issues, but is open to alternative methods and ideas to reach solutions</li> <li>Knowledge of machine and process design</li> <li>Preparation of equipment specifications and purchase documentation</li> <li>Experience with AutoCAD</li> <li>Packaging simulation experience is a plus</li> <li>Demonstrable skills in package Innovation and Development</li> <li>Experience in rigid containers - injection molded cans and pails</li> <li>Experience in barrier properties of packaging materials</li> <li>Experience in cartons, corrugated materials</li> </ul>
