Overview: Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the Accounting Policy department for the enterprise, including proposing and implementing proactive actions to ready BCBSM for impending changes and ensure appropriate accounting treatment.&nbsp; Responsible for providing additional oversight and support for the Corporate tax department by reviewing and validating tax accounting activities, before recording in the financial statements. Has direct leadership responsibility for departmental staff.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Provide direction and oversee staff that perform accounting and tax research on various topics germane to the BCBSM enterprise.</li> <li>Conduct and manage research on new accounting pronouncements, proposed GAAP and SAP accounting standards, and complex accounting issues and analyze potential impact on the company's financial reporting.&nbsp;</li> <li>Oversee the development of an Accounting Policy Governance framework and related activities to ensure that the enterprise maintains and correctly applies financial reporting standards, policies and procedures.</li> <li>Responsible for drafting policies and position papers.</li> <li>Provide interpretation, analysis, communication and operational assistance on all manner of accounting and financial reporting pronouncements and their resultant impact on BCBSM.&nbsp;</li> <li>Draft new issuances and proposed standards as required from Tax Authorities, National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and other Regulatory bodies.</li> <li>Provide regular updates to management, subsidiaries, and other stakeholders regarding technical tax and accounting matters.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <div id="requisitionDescriptionInterface.ID1574.row1" class="inlinepanel" title=""><strong><span class="subtitle">Qualifications</span></strong></div> <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.&nbsp;&nbsp; Master&rsquo;s degree preferred.&nbsp; CPA, CMA, or CFM certification preferred.</li> <li>Five (5) to Seven (7) years of experience in related field required.</li> <li>One (1) to Three (3) years of leadership experience required.</li> <li>Strong working knowledge of accounting requirements pertaining to federal and state taxes.</li> <li>Familiar with healthcare and insurance industry.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability to understand and document core business issues and needs.</li> <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.</li> <li>Ability to problem solve.</li> <li>Ability to develop and adhere to project plans, direct resources and manage multiple and changing priorities.</li> <li>Ability to research and develop position papers on technical tax and accounting topics and translate findings to easily understood communications for other individuals that may be required to implement the guidance provided.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability to work successfully under general direction and minimal supervision.</li> <li>Ability to work effectively in a team environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.&nbsp;</li> <li>Able to effectively manage and develop staff / project team resources.</li> <li>Expert level knowledge of tax accounting and financial transactions flow and their financial statement impact.</li> <li>Expert level knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).</li> <li>Proficient in current industry standard PC application systems (Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel and PowerPoint).</li> </ul>
