Overview: <strong>Involved in advanced analytics in support of conceptualization, design and evaluation of BCBSM clinical programs, such as the largest Patient-Centered-Medical Home initiative in the nation and numerous pay-for-performance initiatives.</strong>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Design and implement epidemiologic studies to understand disease burden in BCBSM insured population and health care services being utilized for disease diagnosis and treatment. Monitor/mentor multiple projects simultaneously be ensuring appropriate epidemiologic study designs and statistic methods are adopted.&nbsp;</li> <li>Drive the continuous method improvement in department analytic work.&nbsp;</li> <li>Identify and resolve challenges in order to fulfill key corporate objectives and respond to the demand of change management and initiate actions needed to plan, organize and control team activities.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assist in the planning and implementation of clinical programs to prevent and control diseases and to improve quality and efficiency of care delivered to BCBSM insured population.&nbsp;</li> <li>Design and implement epidemiologic studies to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical programs. Prepare presentations and technical reports in a clear and concise manner to communicate finding from epidemiologic studies to management, providers and other interested parties. Disseminate research results through presentations to scientific and professional groups and through publications in scientific and professional journals.&nbsp;</li> <li>Provides consultation to Michigan providers, physician organization and other interested groups. Act as liaison between corporate business areas and participates in group or committee discussion.&nbsp;</li> <li>Other duties may be assigned.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Department Summary:</strong></p> <p>The position is responsible for developing predictive models for Care Management programs, evaluating program performance including effectiveness of intervention, clinical improvement, compliance with HEDIS and other clinical guidelines, operational effectiveness, savings, and ROI. The position is involved in advanced analytics in support of care management programs, including testing statistical models based on clinical expertise applied to health care management. The position provides expert consultation in designing health care management programs and identifying qualified candidates based on clinical conditions, current health care practice, statistical models, data management, and integration of multiple data sources including claims, demographic, and external references such as AHRQ, HEDIS, NYU Algorithm, and consumer data. The position supervises other biostatisticians and epidemiologists in the department.</p>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Administration or another related field. Doctoral degrees (PhD or Dr.PH) in related field preferred.</li> <li>At least two (3) years&rsquo; experience in Epidemiology or related field.</li> <li>Knowledge of complex epidemiologic and surveillance methods.</li> <li>Knowledge of current concepts of population health management, program evaluation and needs assessment.</li> <li>Knowledge of health insurance and health care industry in general, more specific about BCBSM business, products and programs.</li> <li>Strong Analytical skills (i.e. statistical methods, business process metrics, outcomes measurement, process modeling, quality assessment, etc.)</li> <li>Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate complex ideas.</li> <li>Strong working knowledge of data languages such as SAS or SQL.</li> <li>Ability to work independently, within a team environment and communicate effectively with employees at all levels.</li> <li>Solid working knowledge of reporting tools and software: Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word and Visio, as well as Statistical software (SAS preferred).</li> </ul>
