Overview: Responsible for serving as a data scientist subject matter expert and in conducting data-driven risk assessments, internal audits and reviews and providing data literacy education on behalf of the corporation to mitigate risk and assess the control environment of each auditable unit. Responsible for the data analytics program implementation and continuous improvement within Blue Cross Internal Audit. Performs and leads analytics projects and workstreams to identify issues, risks, and trends to assist in audit planning through execution, including data preparation, data mining, profiling, and interactive visualization. Provides guidance and mentorship for junior Corporate and IT audit staff.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Perform data querying, manipulation, data set testing, and create scripts or data visualizations on large data sets using specialized tools and data science techniques.</li> <li>Conduct data-driven internal audits and reviews to identify risks, document established controls to mitigate risk and assess the control environment of each auditable unit.</li> <li>Provide support to Internal Audit teams by creating automated testing and conducting continuous monitoring using Computer-Assisted Audit Techniques and analytic tools.</li> <li>Lead and supervise analytics projects and teams to identify key risks and performance metrics utilizing testing scripts and data visualizations.</li> <li>Assist in the enhancement of the Internal Audit&rsquo;s data analytics program&rsquo;s maturity and strategic direction to support audit operations.</li> <li>Obtain and gain an understanding of key source systems and data domains.</li> <li>Conduct and lead analytics training for General Audit and Corporate Compliance team members.</li> <li>Provide guidance and mentorship for junior Corporate and IT audit staff. Provide advisory and subject matter expertise for senior staff and leadership.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Accounting, or related analytical fields required. Master&rsquo;s Degree preferred.</li> <li>Five (5) years of experience required in audit, risk assurance, public accounting or related fields including three (3) years of experience in data analytics and automations tools including, but not limited to, Audit Command Language (ACL), Tableau Business Intelligence Tool, SQL, and Python.</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex analytical concepts in a clear and simple manner.</li> <li>Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, as is necessary to identify datasets/sources that are relevant to the audit and connect risks to data.</li> <li>Mastery of data and analytical concepts and principles; a role model in leveraging data in innovative ways across audit work.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with various levels of management as well as contacts outside the organization.</li> <li>Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.</li> <li>Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and systems (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and SharePoint).</li> <li>Ability to work independently and work in a team environment on projects with concurrent deadlines.</li> <li>Familiarity with data warehouse, data lake concepts and analytics platforms.</li> <li>Must be able to travel to various BCBSM and subsidiary locations, BCBSA (Chicago), other Blue Plans and vendor sites.</li> </ul>
