Overview: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is currently seeking a Systems Administrator II to join the monitoring team in the downtown / Lafayette location. This individual will contribute by providing technical expertise to perform administrative duties on the Splunk deployment.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Interface with other information technology teams to provide guidance and determine detailed log monitoring requirements, then enable data feeds.</li> <li>Identify, install, and troubleshoot installation of Splunk Technology Add-Ons and Applications.</li> <li>Perform Splunk patching and upgrades.</li> <li>Identify, design, document, and implement new log monitoring integrations with existing monitoring tools, complementing existing strategies and techniques.</li> <li>&ldquo;Onboard&rdquo; new monitoring alerts to 24x7 operations team.</li> <li>Ensure Splunk Enterprise cluster health by establishing comprehensive monitoring.</li> <li>Recommend possible application or environment enhancements as needed.</li> <li>Analyze data and alerts from multiple sources to quickly identify root cause of problems.</li> <li>Identify software, hardware, network, or application changes that impact existing instrumentation and update the log monitoring plan accordingly.</li> <li>Participate with team to provide monitoring support for all corporate servers, appliances, network devices, cloud-based services and applications.</li> <li>Evaluate new monitoring technologies as required.</li> <li>Define new processes and update existing process and system documentation as needed.</li> <li>Ensure all data feeds are running continuously.</li> <li>Work closely with Security Operations Team to ensure data quality</li> <li>Resolve support tickets for issues with monitoring tools.</li> <li>Submit and execute change controls as needed.</li> <li>Other duties may be assigned.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong><u>REQUIRED SKILLS</u></strong></p> <p><strong>Splunk Administration</strong></p> <ul> <li>Excellent working knowledge of Linux based Enterprise Splunk deployments.</li> <li>Ability to perform configuration changes via Splunk Deployment Server.</li> <li>Ability to map log data to fields within Splunk at time of ingest or within SPL.</li> <li>Good working knowledge of regular expressions.</li> <li>Understanding of various IT technologies and the logs they create.</li> <li>Rsyslog configuration knowledge.</li> <li>REST and additional API experience.</li> <li>Ability to create workflow from Splunk to supporting tools.</li> <li>Experience with analyzing data from cloud-based solutions.</li> </ul> <p><strong>General IT Capabilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Proficient in Windows and RedHat operating systems.</li> <li>Proficient in SQL, MYSQL, and Oracle database technologies.</li> <li>Proficient in Hypervisor environments.</li> <li>Experience with change control, incident tracking, and other general IT process and governance tools.</li> <li>Proficient understanding of segments, firewalls, proxy servers, DMZ&rsquo;s, and other networking concepts that can impact log monitoring designs.</li> <li>Proficient understanding of Information Security concepts.</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>Qualifications</u></strong></p> <p><strong>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in related field preferred.</li> <li>Five (5) years of relevant information technology, log ingestion, monitoring, server administration, network, or security work experience required.</li> <li>Experience with Splunk, Elk Stack, or other log ingestion and analysis tools.</li> <li>Experience working in both physical and virtual OS environments.</li> <li>Experience working in both on premises and cloud environments.</li> <li>Excellent troubleshooting skills.</li> </ul> <p><strong>OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES</strong></p> <ul> <li>Analytical thinking skills.</li> <li>Self-starting, identifies opportunities and drives work effort.</li> <li>Ability to determine work direction without needing tasks spelled out.</li> <li>Ability to work independently, or within a team environment.</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills interpersonal skills.</li> <li>Ability to train groups and mentor coworkers with less experience.</li> <li>The ability to be flexible and adapt easily to changes.</li> <li>Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.</li> </ul>
