Overview: Responsible for providing strategic input on human-centered approaches to designing solutions and delivering business value on projects. This role will also guide and coach other designers and business partners through a collaborative design process with project activities that result in useful, usable deliverables.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Proactively seek out market information that will influence project approach, concepting, and solutioning. Anticipate and adapt to changes in the business environment to help the organization maintain and increase our competitive advantage.</li> <li>Synthesize complex business needs and insights as part of developing innovative solutions. Proactively identify opportunities to improve business outcomes with human centered design.</li> <li>Work across multiple projects to evolve how we think about prioritization and bring consistency to the Design Studio / Business partnership. Regularly partner with business owners to evolve how the Studio can deliver impact.</li> <li>Synthesize data from multiple sources. Tell high impact stories with data and communicate data insights in a compelling way.</li> <li>Develop and execute complex business strategies that leverage innovative business models and value propositions with Leads and Director. You have a deep understanding of business architecture. Design and implement complex systems and processes that enable value realization.</li> <li>Evaluate and improve design processes. Identify areas for improvement and implement changes.</li> <li>Mentor and coach other designers to bring business strategy principles into the broader design process and lay the foundation for a business design craft area.</li> <li>Lead multiple low-complexity projects or a single medium-complexity project for the Design Studio with guidance from leadership.</li> <li>Lead initiatives intended to improve ways of working with other parts of the organization and share thought leadership on collaboration.</li> <li>Act as a strategic partner to Design Leads or Director and apply deep knowledge of designing intended experiences to a range of business problems and desired outcomes.</li> <li>Build on knowledge of healthcare business and stakeholder needs to deliver strategic design and business outcomes as you lead project teams.</li> <li>Facilitate project meetings, design activities, and workshops with multiple stakeholder groups.</li> <li>Work to intentionally develop leadership style and skills. May manage contractors and interns.</li> <li>Assist others grow and refine craft skills by providing critique, feedback, coaching, tips, resources, and interdisciplinary insights.</li> <li>Contribute to hiring decisions and career growth conversations with Leads and Director.</li> <li>Shape project work approaches to support experimenting and testing a range of new ideas, methods, and approaches that push team skills and enhance the impact of design outcomes.</li> <li>Represent and promote design across BCBSM and in the community through knowledge sharing.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a related field required. Master&rsquo;s degree preferred.</li> <li>Minimum of four (4) years of professional design experience, or three (3) years of professional design experience with a relevant master's degree.&nbsp;</li> <li>Minimum two (2) years&rsquo; experience in healthcare or another complex or highly regulated industry is preferred.&nbsp;</li> <li>Experience conducting, planning, designing, and facilitating qualitative research.</li> <li>Must have strong written, visual, and oral communication skills.</li> <li>Proven expertise in applying design thinking and service design processes, facilitation, and relevant design frameworks and methods to a range of different projects and business problems.&nbsp;</li> <li>Portfolio demonstrating experience leading a range of stakeholders through processes that led to develop common design frameworks (for example: &nbsp;service blueprints, journey maps, ecosystem maps, and stakeholder mindsets, etc.).</li> <li>Must be able to clearly articulate design decisions and frame key messaging for different stakeholder groups as needed.&nbsp;</li> <li>Must be comfortable with design communication and storytelling&mdash;able to re-frame and pivot in real time to increase understanding across stakeholder groups.</li> <li>Experience transferring your knowledge and skills as tools evolve and change.</li> </ul>
