Overview: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, modeling and reporting assigned department financial information such as revenue and expenses by account, customer and product segments. Uses specialized knowledge for interpretation and application of financial and accounting principles to ensure compliance for financial and regulatory filings. Prepare range of financial or regulatory reports, schedules and/or statements required by internal and external entities.
Responsibilities: <div>Responsible as Lead Accountant for the preparation of&nbsp;reports that support the&nbsp;corporate financial statements and various other reporting for internal, BCBSM and Governmental (State Insurance Bureau, IRS, etc.) use.&nbsp; Perform complex financial analysis.&nbsp; Reporting and analytical responsibilities for corporate financial statements, other reporting and corporate budget.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div> <p>Assist with the&nbsp;preparation of corporate financial statements (internal and external formats), financial statement variance comments, government required reporting and schedules related to the corporate forecast.&nbsp; This would include complex financial analysis beyond that performed at the accountant level, assisting in training and answering questions of accountants.&nbsp;Prepare journal entries, account analyses, financial statements, variance comments, government reporting, corporate forecast schedules and other miscellaneous reporting/schedules for supervisor review. Prepare specific division, customer or segment reports that may include compiling information from various sources to provide meaningful financial reports or to assure appropriate date reconciliation. Assist with annual audit, including preparing and reviewing audit schedules, closing journal entries and audited financial statements.&nbsp; Assist supervisor in fulfilling auditors&rsquo; requests. Prepare analyses related to review, benefit expense and administrative expense, identifying and providing explanations for variances. Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team.&nbsp; Fill in for supervisor during absences.</p> </div>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting or a Bachelors Degree in Accounting required.&nbsp; Public accounting preferred.</li> <li>Four years proven accounting experience from general ledger through financial statement preparation (performance of complete close cycle).</li> <li>Statement preparation (performance of complete close cycle).&nbsp;</li> <li>Proven technical writing experience required.</li> <li>Proven experience with Excel and Word.</li> <li>Proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and computerized general ledger systems required.&nbsp;</li> <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing skills.&nbsp;</li> <li>Must possess excellent analytical skills.</li> <li>Knowledge of Facets preferred but not required.</li> </ul> <p>DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.</li> <li>Four (4) years professional accounting experience including auditing, financial statement and technical accounting pronouncement research.</li> <li>Proficient in current industry standard PC applications and systems (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.).</li> <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES</p> <ul> <li>Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) preferred.</li> <li>Proficient in Access and/or other relational database experience preferred.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p>
