Paid Internship

Overview: Functions as an internal control consultant responsible for assisting in conducting internal information technology (IT) audits/reviews and project consulting services on behalf of the corporation to mitigate risk and assess the control environment. Develop and communicate control risk and issues for multiple layers of leadership. Supports the enterprise development of BCBSM&rsquo;s understanding about risk and controls and improvements to the risk management and control systems.<br /> <ul> <li>Obtain exposure to compliance, governance and risk management as it relates to Cybersecurity and Information Technology</li> <li>Obtain exposure to health insurance industry processes, controls and technologies</li> <li>Learn to apply a risk-based approach to evaluating strategic corporate initiatives</li> <li>Learn to apply an IT audit methodology by executing a program to evaluate controls</li> <li>Network and establish professional contacts in the health care industry by attending departmental and client meetings.</li> </ul>
Responsibilities: <strong><span id="requisitionDescriptionInterface.ID1592.row1" class="subtitle" title="">Assignments &amp; Responsibilities</span></strong><span class="blockpanel"><span class="">&nbsp;</span></span> <ul> <li> <div><span style="font-size: medium;">Assist in conducting internal audits and risk assessments to identify risks, document established controls to mitigate risk and assess the control environment of each auditable unit.</span></div> </li> <li> <div><span style="font-size: medium;">Attend client interviews and assist in preparing all meeting documentation.</span></div> </li> <li> <div><span style="font-size: medium;">Prepare complete and accurate audit workpapers in a timely manner.</span></div> </li> <li> <div><span style="font-size: medium;">Assist in the development of final reporting of audit findings and/or risks identified to executive management.</span></div> </li> </ul>
Requirements: <br /><strong>Required &amp; Preferred Skills</strong><br /> <br /><strong>Preferred Major(s):</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Cybersecurity</li> <li>Information Technology</li> <li>Computer Science</li> <li>Management Information Systems</li> <li>Accounting and Information Systems</li> </ul> <strong>Preferred and Minimum Candidate Standing:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Grad School: Any</li> <li>Undergrad: Junior or Senior; Desired GPA: 3.5 and above</li> <li>Basic knowledge of and/or interest in Cybersecurity and Information Technology (processes and controls); technical knowledge is not required</li> <li>Effectively collaborate/work in a team environment</li> <li>Demonstrate critical thinking skills to solve problems in a dynamic team environment</li> <li>Strong communication skills, including the ability to listen, understand, read, and communicate effectively both written and verbally in a professional environment</li> <li>Proficient in current industry standard PC applications, (e.g. Excel, Access, Word, Microsoft Office)</li> <li>Ability to travel to other BCBSM facilities and vendor sites to meet with operating or audit personnel (as needed)</li> <li>Preferred Work Experience:Prior work experience in specified field is desired, but not required</li> <li>Prior health care experience</li> </ul>
