Paid Internship

Overview: Interns will get&nbsp;the opportunity to observe and get a general understanding of how the underwriting world works from a BCBSM perspective.&nbsp; Interns will learn about the various activities and reporting that is done&nbsp;in&nbsp;either&nbsp;Small&nbsp;Group, Large Group, New Business and Individual Underwriting.
Responsibilities: <p style="font-weight: 400;">Interns will:</p> <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;">Understand aspects of Health Insurance products and Benefit Design.</li> <li style="font-weight: 400;">Understand the&nbsp;rating process and drivers of rate development.</li> <li style="font-weight: 400;">Learn the importance of open communication with&nbsp;partners.</li> <li style="font-weight: 400;">Understand the impact of Healthcare Reform.</li> </ul> <p>Assignments may include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Assist in development of quotes.</li> <li>Research accuracy of current rating factors.</li> <li>Participate in weekly group discussions with partners.</li> <li>Assist in projecting performance of current groups.</li> <li>Learn about quarterly settlements.</li> <li>Learn about group renewals.</li> <li>Learn how to estimate claims run out.</li> <li>Development of&nbsp;processes.</li> <li>Testing of systems.</li> <li>Assist in generating quarterly settlements.</li> <li>Assist in generating group renewals.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p>Ideal candidates for the Underwriting&nbsp;internships should:</p> <ul> <li>Major in&nbsp;Finance,&nbsp;Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Informatics&nbsp;or other majors with a strong analytical focus.</li> <li>Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better, 3.5 preferred.</li> <li>Be able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and&nbsp;analytic skills.</li> <li>Have previous work experience.</li> <li>Have an interest in Insurance&nbsp;and/or Risk Management.</li> </ul>
