Overview: <p><u>Overview &amp; Objectives</u></p> <p>The intern would be assigned to Robin Mitchell, manager in National Programs, and the internship would include the following components:</p> <p><strong>Orientation</strong> - orientation to the department and the work of National Programs, Health Care Value and BCBSM</p> <p><strong>Workplan</strong> &ndash; to include projects and objectives that will include opportunities for professional and personal development based on National Programs needs as well as the intern&rsquo;s personal development goals; the workplan will enable the intern to take initiative, work on a team and work with other disciplines</p> <p><strong>Regular preceptor meetings</strong> &ndash; designed to support the intern&rsquo;s ability to make progress on projects and to act as a resource for personal and professional development</p> <p><strong>Opportunities for networking</strong> &ndash; intern will be encouraged to network with other interns as well as with National Programs, Product and HCV staff to develop contacts and to better understand the work and goals of the larger organization</p> <p><strong>Assessment of performance</strong> &ndash; to provide feedback for professional development at the end of the internship</p>
Responsibilities: <p><u>Assignments &amp; Responsibilities</u></p> <p>Potential projects and assignments within National Programs:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Alternative Payment Methods</strong> &ndash; gain an understanding of value-based Professional Provider reimbursement models (i.e., CMS, other commercial carriers, other Blues Plans) that are alternatives to fee-for-service and develop communications materials to help educate BCBSM Sales Team, Agents, Customers and Members.</li> <li><strong>Value Based Programs</strong> &ndash; gain an understanding of value-based programs (i.e., Patient Centered Medical Homes, Accountable Care Organizations, Care coordination) and how they can help increase quality and cost-efficiency in the delivery of health care services.</li> <li><strong>Episode Based Payments</strong> &ndash; research the cost efficiency of this alternative payment methodology and identify how it can help increase quality and cost efficiency.</li> <li>Develop agendas and presentations for committee meetings &ndash; including the VBP Platform Committee, Blue Distinction Workgroup meetings, and VBP Evaluation and Strategic Direction Steering Committee meetings.</li> <li><strong>Sales team support</strong> &ndash; Design an analysis that will help National Programs understand where to focus Value-Based Programs educational efforts for the BCBSM Sales Team/Agents and Consultants.</li> <li>Opportunity to select a topic that has relevance to National Programs (i.e., alternative payment models, new healthcare cost/quality initiatives or programs (i.e., National level) and research and present findings to an internal or external audience.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><u>Required &amp; Preferred Skills</u></p> <ul> <li><strong>National Programs Objectives</strong> -&nbsp; to provide a student with an opportunity to integrate classroom learning in a BCBSM/National Programs environment to develop new skills, work on personal and professional development and growth, and provide National Programs the opportunity to have a student resource to support and contribute to the work of the department.</li> <li><strong>Intern qualifications preferred</strong> &ndash; University of Michigan School of Public Health program graduate student or undergraduate or a student studying healthcare administration or a student in a liberal arts curriculum with an interest in healthcare administration.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Good research, writing and analysis skills; healthy curiosity; good energy, and willingness to try new opportunities.</li> </ul>
