Right now, we are adding a Director, Technology Strategy to the team. This is an opportunity to step up from and guide the product management team and the technical strategy for developing the digital media tools and systems that help us build on our success. You will lead the adoption of agile engineering practices that enable a pace of development and releasing required to quickly improve the digital audience experience that CBC provides. We need to implement a highly scalable technical strategy for architecture that can support the most impressive numbers by a corporation on this side of the border. That&rsquo;s tens of thousands of concurrent users at peak time on a typical news day and several hundred thousand simultaneously during the Olympics, the Federal election, and world-changing events like The Tragically Hip&rsquo;s final live performance.</p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>What you will do</strong></p> <p>In close collaboration with leaders and subject matter experts across CBC, you will develop a shared vision for the technology we need to give Canadians the best possible audience experience. You will be a leader in an Agile organization; you will facilitate great outcomes, you will enable the wisdom in our developers and architects, and you will create the right context for our teams to do their best work.</p> <p>In this role, you will focus on fostering a culture of continuous learning; working with stakeholders to create a roadmap that aligns with our vision and is reflected in the priorities of a fiscal plan; enabling optimization of tools through architectural leadership.</p> <p>You will position the CBC as an innovative public media company that can effectively compete with the best technology companies for audiences and talent. Requirements: <p><strong>What you bring:</strong></p> <ul> <li>The hands-on experience. You have a history of engineering at scale and building stable, available, secure infrastructure that supports continuous releasing. You can create a strategy and vision, aligning technical work across an organization. You are audience-focused and you understand how to make technical decisions that can drive business KPIs.</li> <li>The empowerment. You have a history of coaching, mentoring and empowering people and teams (of less than ten) in an Agile environment. You are an effective facilitator and collaborator.</li> <li>The communication skills. You have expertise communicating cogently with stakeholders. You are an effective communicator; you&rsquo;re capable of explaining your vision to others, and of understanding others&rsquo; ideas.</li> <li>The collaboration skills. You can work with others to develop a strategic plan to implement an architectural vision that supports the organization&rsquo;s objectives.</li> <li>The operational knowledge. You have expertise managing a department and a budget; planning and driving the work of a cross-functional team; creating a roadmap and executing on a strategy.</li> <li>The intellectual curiosity. You are continuously researching, learning and innovating; you can influence the teams around you to do the same - to adapt quickly and to embrace the new while accepting the ambiguous.</li> <li>The language.
