CBC Digital Products is looking for a Senior Java Developer to join our growing team.</p> <p>Our new Senior Java Developer will be responsible for producing both the underlying frameworks and main digital properties that make up CBC.ca. While we welcome people who feel they can contribute in non-traditional ways, strong core Java is essential for this role</p> <p><strong>New project work that you may work on includes:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Exploring semantic web to standardize tagging using industry standards and create a taxonomy that makes business sense.</li> <li>Working with the team that develops the technology responsible for creating and managing media presented on the public site and in native apps, to improve system metrics using ElasticSearch and Kibana.</li> <li>Developing standardized, vendor-agnostic APIs geared to: <ul> <li>Simplify content creation and discovery.</li> <li>Optimize distribution speed and relevancy.</li> <li>Generate data driven content by knowing what our audience wants.</li> <li>Unify data storage and automate the generation of API documentation.</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <p>If you're passionate about Canada and you love technology, learning and bringing out the best in others, you&rsquo;ll love working at CBC.</p> <p><strong>Who you are and where are you now?</strong></p> <p>You are working as a Senior Java Developer and you are looking for an opportunity to join a company with a purpose and with a commitment to supporting the career progression of their people. Responsibilities: <p><strong>How you will make a difference on a daily basis:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with fellow team members, the design team and Architects to ensure the highest quality product is developed and best practices are followed.</li> <li>Help the team to provide task breakdown and effort estimates to assist planning and implementation.</li> <li>Work and collaborate with QA team members to facilitate successful releases.</li> <li>Work with content-area development teams to assist in the implementation and support of digital properties based on the platforms and frameworks developed by Digital Products.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>What you bring:</strong></p> <ul> <li>The education. A Computer Science, Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their programming skills this way.</li> <li>The passion. You have a passion for information and technology and you are enthusiastic about the opportunity to link the two pieces together.</li> <li>The hands-on expertise. You have hands-on professional experience developing large complex web-based applications. You have: <ul> <li>Expertise in Java and exposure to JEE frameworks.</li> <li>An understanding of how applications exchange and process JSON and XML.</li> <li>Proficiency with OOA and OOD (would be very beneficial).</li> <li>Hands-on experience writing API endpoints (preferred).</li> <li>Experience writing code accompanied by unit tests sufficient to ensure code coverage; experience using test-driven development would be considered an asset.</li> <li>Familiarity with Microservice architecture (would be beneficial).</li> </ul> </li> <li>The extra Java-based knowledge. You have experience developing with Java-based content management systems would be considered an asset. Knowledge and understanding of Java-based profiling and debugging tools.</li> <li>The desire to learn. You have the ability to quickly learn new technologies and respond to change by learning and adapting.</li> <li>The communication skills. You know how to listen and relay empathy and understanding for diverse perspectives.</li> <li>The confidence and the humility. Your powers of observation help you understand your audience and communicate with the right level of detail. You are open to the ideas of others.</li> <li>The creativity and adaptability.
