MTIS is the team making it happen.</p> <p><strong>The opportunity</strong></p> <p>CBC/Radio-Canada is seeking an Application Support Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Media Support &ndash; News and Digital, this is an opportunity for someone with a passion for media and helping people, to step into Canada&rsquo;s oldest and most respected broadcaster. An Application Support Specialist who wants to be a key player on a team that provides invaluable cross-functional support and subject matter expertise from 5am-11pm in 8-hour shifts. News is of-the-moment and journalists and other content creators alike are under pressure to get their story out first. In essence, we use a complex set of tools and best practices to ensure the content gets online as fast as possible. We need an Application Specialist who can provide onsite, telephone and remote troubleshooting and issue resolution on both hardware and complex content applications. Someone who is flexible to work shifts including one weekend every two months.</p> <p><strong>Who you are and where are you now?</strong></p> <p>You are a graduate in journalism, digital media, broadcasting &nbsp;television or media production with an interest in the technical tools that make content come to life in a digital world. You understand media production workflows. You have excellent communication skills, and you&rsquo;re computer-savvy. You know how to diagnose and fix problems from basic computer issues to back-of-house media file workflow issues with a range of support tools. You are ready to do what it takes and step up to the urgency of providing real solutions in a crisis situation.</p> <p><strong>What&rsquo;s in it for you?</strong></p> <p><em><u>C</u>hallenges.&nbsp;</em>We spend our days solving problems on an unbelievable scale. Media file management is a highly nuanced and incredibly complicated process. You will face high-pressure, time sensitive challenges when there is a breakdown or glitch in the workflows used by the journalists and others. You will work with content creators in the main newsroom and other content areas in Toronto as well as the support bureaus all over the country. You will develop - through training and on-the-job exposure - a deep understanding of the complexity of dealing with automation elements for television and workflows journalists use.</p> <p><em><u>B</u>e part of the change.</em>&nbsp;Right now we are looking for people who can execute our strategy. You will develop a deep understanding and be able to provide support to a wide range of tools including our News Rooms Integration System - an advanced technology workspace for all CBC journalists. The tools that journalists use are impressive and amazing. It is the bridge between the digital products and the creators. From online CMS to automated control room systems; the tools we support drive what appears online and what&rsquo;s said on air, as well as, the media and graphics that support the story. They are also daunting and frustrating when things go wrong. You will gain and apply knowledge across a broad range of content and production applications while taking on a consulting and training role as well.</p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>How you will make a difference as part of a group responsible for:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Front-line support. You will troubleshoot and solve issues with iNews, Dalet, MediaCentral, MPX and Polopoly as well as peripheral applications and devices. You will act as a single-point-of-contact for both level one and escalation point problems. You will document and resolve problems for all operating, hardware and production-related issues.</li> <li>Subject matter expertise. You will provide consultation to editorial and production personnel on the use of content creation applications, computer hardware and related duties. You will identify and initiate efficiencies in editorial and production workflows through the use of content creation tools, automation, machine control interfaces (e.g., Teleprompting, MOS automation and VizRT.).</li> <li>Knowledge sharing. You will provide editorial and production training to individuals or groups on the efficient use of production software and tools. You will provide support and training for enterprise desktop audio and video production system (MediaCentral and Dalet).</li> <li>Best practices. You have a degree or diploma in film and television or media production, journalism or broadcasting.</li> <li>The experience. You have worked with and know how to provide support for the configuration and set up of mobile, laptop and desktop. You have a basic understanding of the parts of a computer; from the ability to troubleshoot and solve common software and hardware issues, you have a broad range of experience with providing setup and support.</li> <li>The communication skills. You have a customer-service approach and you are empathetic towards the people you help. You are skilled at presenting ideas, explaining complex concepts in a straightforward manner, documenting processes and workflows. You know how to listen, understand perspectives and relay your opinions with sensitivity.</li> <li>The collaborative approach.
