MTIS is the team making it happen.</p> <p><strong>The opportunity</strong></p> <p>Reporting to the Senior Manager, Web and Infrastructure, we need a Senior Systems Administrator - VMware and Storage. It&rsquo;s an opportunity to help shape the way the corporation works internally and make a contribution towards our &ldquo;Space for us all&rdquo; strategic plan. As a part of the production solutions team, you will install, monitor and manage critical systems that span multiple platforms across the country.</p> <p><strong>Who are you and where are you now</strong></p> <p>You are a Systems Administrator managing a mid-sized VMware site who wants to step up to the challenges of working with bigger systems, bigger infrastructure, and bigger demands. Or, you are escaping the old way to work and getting ready to learn new tools, work with exciting digital product teams and be part of a public broadcaster.</p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>What&rsquo;s in it for you?</strong></p> <p><strong><em><u>C</u>hallenges.</em></strong>&nbsp;We spend our days solving problems on an unbelievable scale. Media files are highly nuanced and incredibly complicated; moving our broadcasting content from on-prem servers to the cloud is a complex technical feat. And that&rsquo;s just the beginning. In this role, you will continuously be challenged to apply your judgment, knowledge, experience and analytical skills to:</p> <ul> <li>Enhance application functionality. You will plan, coordinate, implement, manage system configuration for new installations or upgrades.</li> <li>Support. You will be responsible for initiating, planning and coordinating the effective client support for the system.</li> <li>Maintain. You will troubleshoot problems and coordinate activities to support the administration of systems.</li> <li>Oversee operational procedures. You will assist in the development and implementation of standards for running new computer system processes and procedures.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em><u>B</u>e part of the change.</em></strong>&nbsp;Right now we are looking for people who can execute our strategy. Requirements: <p><strong>What you bring:</strong></p> <ul> <li>The education. A Computer Science, Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their programming skills this way.</li> <li>The hands-on experience. You have a balanced blend of system administration, release deployment and development. You can empathize with a developer&rsquo;s needs and tools. You can work with product teams to understand their needs and build infrastructure. You understand the modern aspects of cloud technology - &nbsp;modelling, deployment, storage, optimization, and management - in Google, Azure and AWS.</li> <li>The technical skills. You have experience with: <ul> <li>PHP, .NET, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB.</li> <li>Atlassian tools.</li> <li>VMware Virtualization and cloud hosting services.</li> <li>Scripting (intermediate).</li> <li>Technologies and storage systems including vendors such as Dell, EMC, NetApp, and Pure.</li> </ul> </li> <li>The bonus technical skills. You have experience with: <ul> <li>Hosted CMS and microCMS systems, such as WordPress.</li> <li>Working in a broadcast media environment.</li> <li>Content Delivery Networks such as Akamai.</li> </ul> </li> <li>The strategic approach. You are highly aware of the importance of simplicity and scalability. You have the patience to consider all options before jumping into a decision. You are motivated by building robust, reliable processes and solutions that are replicable. You can balance multiple projects simultaneously and execute decisions independently.</li> <li>The relationship building finesse. You can nurture strong two-way relationships with peers, partners, clients, staff, senior managers, and external technological vendors. You have outstanding communication skills. You are comfortable presenting technical concepts and solutions to a nontechnical audience. You know how to listen and you understand perspectives.</li> <li>The flexibility. You are able and willing to work outside of regular working hours.
