Overview: <p><strong>Key Performance Areas</strong></p> <p>The Application Engineer will be responsible for developing new opportunities in the oil &amp; gas industry for engineered products made using high performance materials. The role is expected to provide technical support to sales force in understanding customer materials needs, analyze the performance determining factors and offer material solutions. In doing so this role enables developing key relationship with the customer and generate further new opportunities.&nbsp;</p> <p>The preferred location for this position is Houston, Texas.&nbsp;</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Identify opportunities and application targets for components and sub-assemblies using carbide and diamond materials in various applications in oil &amp; gas industry</li> <li>Understand the customer requirements in terms of material performance, design requirements and assist them in appropriate material selection for components and sub-assemblies</li> <li>Serve as a liaison between company engineering and customers while developing and testing the products</li> <li>Work with product management in understanding markets, applications and technology trends in oil &amp; gas industry specific to relevant areas of application</li> <li>Be available to support sales team during customer interactions</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p>Required qualification is a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in engineering or physical sciences. Any advanced degree is a plus. Have at least 5 plus years of work experience in a similar position involving materials and application engineering.&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Strong engineering background and understanding of material properties, their performance in typical conditions with the ability to read engineering drawings, interpret the requirements &amp; specifications and visualize the application of the products</li> <li>Ability to understand oil &amp; gas applications, tools and assemblies used in oilfield services and material properties and performance expectations</li> <li>Knowledge of cemented carbide and synthetic diamond properties and applications will be a plus</li> <li>Excellent oral and written communication skills: experience working across multiple levels, functions and regions; able to clearly communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner</li> <li>Clear thinking/problem solving: successfully led application development activities; able to quickly grasp new ideas</li> </ul> <p>Desired Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Able to anticipate, identify, and respond to challenging situations</li> <li>Demonstrate leadership ability</li> <li>Experience in working in a multi-functional environment with an ability to understand various processes and transactional flows</li> <li>Basic understanding of typical production processes for components and sub-assemblies made from cemented carbide, diamond and other associated materials</li> <li>Adaptable/flexible: being open to change (positive or negative) in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations</li> <li>Trained and/or certified in process improvement methodology such as LEAN or Six Sigma</li> <li>Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions, and when dealing with others</li> </ul>
