Overview: <br />The Network Engineer, working under minimal supervision of the Director, Network Services and with guidance from Senior Network Engineers, refers only exceptional problems and issues for management review or approval. The Engineer designs, promotes, and supports assigned network technologies for routing, switching, data connectivity, and access methods. The Network Engineer provides solutions to improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of the data networks that are critical to the end user experience. In addition to data network infrastructure design and implementation activities, the Network Engineer is tasked with troubleshooting network issues and providing root cause analysis. The Network Engineer manages escalation of network issues and inquiries as assigned, provides timely and actionable project status information, and works collaboratively with all teams within a shared services organization framework.
Responsibilities: <br /> <ul> <li>Resolves network infrastructure issues and works with senior engineers to design solutions. <ul> <li>Troubleshoots technical aspects of the enterprise voice and data network infrastructure.</li> <li>Applies best practices and procedures for solution delivery and support in addition to producing and maintaining detailed infrastructure documentation.</li> <li>Through lifecycle projects and initiatives, maintains and updates all voice and data hardware and software platforms that comprise the infrastructure; upgrades/migrates assets in compliance with lifecycle guidelines and objectives.</li> <li>Maintains a working knowledge of the hardware environments that comprise the Cisco data network</li> <li>Maintains a working knowledge of the current voice infrastructure.</li> <li>Takes the initiative when alerts and/or failures occur to troubleshoot and isolate the source of issues while leveraging team resources in this effort.</li> <li>Works with team members as well as other support and development groups to collaborate voice and data questions and issues and effectively transfers knowledge to peer groups</li> </ul> </li> <li>Acts as technical lead on assigned projects of small to moderate scope, while delivering quality solutions, on time, within budget, while factoring future growth when proposing solutions. <ul> <li>Working with an assigned member of the Project Management Office, authors a project plan, develops a schedule, and creates documentation and messaging.</li> <li>Makes sound decisions based on the information available. Remains objective to the ideas or recommendations of peers and open to taking a different approach. Takes ownership and assumes responsibility for decisions made in relation to work assignments.</li> <li>Works closely with other support, development, QA, and business teams to provide complete solutions that meet the needs of all parties.</li> <li>Updates management with project information in a timely manner.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Works with Senior Network Engineers to research, design and implement possible solutions for the network infrastructure with a primary focus on, but not limited to, Cisco and Avaya technologies. Adheres to company policies and procedures in design. <ul> <li>Looks for new products, technologies, and methods to enhance or improve the infrastructure.</li> <li>Understands work processes and maintains the documentation that supports them.</li> <li>Maintains a thorough understanding of the security policies and applies policies to infrastructure design.</li> <li>Determines and documents baseline performance of existing systems. Monitors these systems to identify and resolve performance issues.</li> <li>Identifies vulnerabilities within the infrastructure and provides recommendations.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned</li> </ul>
