Overview: <span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">In this role, you will oversee the Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine which supports all aspects of the research programs. This includes acting as the Attending Veterinarian, collaborating with researchers, developing diagnostic and clinical protocols, and serving on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. We are seeking someone able to be a full-fledged faculty member and ensure laboratory compliance. This is an incredible opportunity at the director level for a DVM to manage staff; implement rules and regulations necessary for accreditation, certifications, and general compliance; and contribute to meaningful research.</span>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Maintain certifications and compliance</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Provide veterinary care for all animals</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Serve as a faculty member, including tutoring of second-year students</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Collaborate with research leaders to facilitate, review, and approve their research programs</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Uphold the mission of the institution and contribute to the positive, collaborative, idea-sharing culture in the medical school</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Represent the institution at key conferences and seminars</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Coach and mentor laboratory team</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">35% Administration: Manage budgets, operations, and maintenance; uphold certifications, compliance, and accreditation; formulate future strategies and capital plans; ensure OSHA compliance</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">25% Clinical: Develop and sustain diagnostic and clinical services, act as the attending veterinarian, deliver clinical medicine and surgical care to the animal population, provide veterinary guidance on all test protocols, and offer input for faculty-initiated animal projects</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">15% Service: As the Attending Veterinarian on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, you will be tasked with every step from the development to the approval of all protocols including model selection and surgical techniques. You will also perform facility and laboratory inspections, conduct program evaluations, train and develop new hires, and ensure adherence to all accreditation standards and regulatory requirements</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">15% Teaching: Design and execute training initiatives, participate in thesis and dissertation committees, contribute to curriculum development, and instruct graduate and undergraduate courses</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">10% Research: Prepare grant applications, submit manuscripts for publication, and supervise fellows, technicians, residents, and students in research efforts</span></li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an AVMA accredited institution required</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Active Illinois veterinary license or ability to complete the process within 8 months of job offer required</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Candidates must be Board eligible by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM)</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Must be up-to-date with USDA and PHS regulations</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Must be familiar with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) accreditation process</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Candidates must have a practitioner license from the US-DEA to prescribe, dispense, administer and conduct research involving controlled substances</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Experience handling various laboratory</span> <span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">and managing housing types, including conventional, barrier, and bio-containment facilities preferred</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Experience managing animal surgical suites, including those for USDA-regulated and non-regulated animals preferred</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Demonstrated research capabilities in an academic and professional setting</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Strategic and intentional decision maker</span></li> <li><span class="OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none">Fair, proactive, and patient communicator and relationship builder</span></li> </ul>
