As a Bus Operator, you will operate school buses to transport students, faculty, and others to and from school, field trips, athletic events, and other events.</p>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Operates school buses in compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.</li> <li>Adheres to established schedules to safely pick up, transport, and discharge students and staff.</li> <li>Assists students and other passengers to provide safe entrance and exit from buses during emergency situations, bus evacuations, and normal transport.</li> <li>Maintains student discipline on the bus.</li> <li>Coordinates with school principals and area transportation supervisors to resolve minor and serious disciplinary problems.</li> <li>Transports students and faculty members on special field trips and to and from athletic events.</li> <li>Completes pre-trip inspections and post-trip inspections of buses.</li> <li>Maintains the appearance and cleanliness of assigned vehicles.</li> <li>Notifies, as soon as possible, leadership of suspected mechanical defects and malfunctioning equipment on assigned vehicles.</li> <li>Notes and reports any damage to the assigned bus.</li> <li>Secures or ensures the proper securing of all occupant restraint systems.</li> <li>Assists students in boarding buses; places wheelchairs securely in buses; transports students' medical apparatuses.</li> <li>Responds appropriately in emergency situations to include lifting, carrying, and/or dragging students off the bus.</li> <li>Executes emergency evacuation plans for all students with all pertinent information for all groups of students transported.</li> <li>Maintains records of bus operations and submits required reports in an accurate and timely manner; compiles and submits accident report information; and reports prolonged traffic delays.</li> <li>Monitors general and/or special education students until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. to ensure student safety.</li> <li>Attends meetings and training sessions.</li> <li>Adheres to applicable policies, statutes, and procedures set forth in&nbsp;<em>State Bulletin 119- Louisiana School Transportation and Bulletin 119 --Louisiana School Transportation Specifications and Procedures.</em></li> <li>Cooperates with transportation staff on route adjustments throughout the school year.</li> <li>Performs other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Proficient in the general use of a computer, the use of email as a form of communication, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applications.</li> <li>Proven experience in a coordination role.</li> <li>Strong decision-making capabilities.</li> <li>Above-average communication, collaboration, and delegation skills.</li> <li>Strong working knowledge of operational procedures.</li> <li>Ability to read and interpret a map.</li> <li>Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Job Requirements<br /></strong></p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.</li> <li>Valid Commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.</li> <li>Clean driving record in accordance with Safe Driver Plan.</li> <li>Commercial License Medical Examiner's Certification.</li> <li>CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) Certification.</li> <li>School Bus Driver Certificate.</li> <li>May perform other duties as assigned.</li> <li>Continuing Education/Training/Compliance: <ul> <li>Monthly Safety Meetings.</li> <li>Annual School Bus Driver Certification.</li> <li>Maintain clean driving record in accordance with Safe Drive Plan.</li> <li>Maintain background check clearance in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education in conjunction with the Louisiana State Police (LSP) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).</li> <li>Maintain Commercial License Medical Examiner's Certificate.</li> <li>Driving assessment each semester.</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Work Environment</strong></p> <p>While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter:</p> <ul> <li>Indoors and outdoors.</li> <li>Office Environment.</li> <li>School Bus Environment.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Physical Demands</strong></p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
