Overview: <p>Sets up and operates machines and machining centers to fabricate parts; fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques.</p> <div id="gtx-trans" style="position: absolute; left: -29px; top: 26px;">&nbsp;</div>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Studies blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.</li> <li>Verifies conformance of processes or workpiece to specifications.</li> <li>Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece.</li> <li>Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.</li> <li>Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut; enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.</li> <li>Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.</li> <li>Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using precision measurements, including micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.</li> <li>Sets up and operates machine trial runs to verify the accuracy of settings or programmed control data.</li> <li>Fits and assembles parts into the complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.</li> <li>Confers with engineers, production, or programmers, to resolve machining or assembly problems.</li> <li>Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.</li> <li>Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.</li> <li>Conducts tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.</li> </ul> While performing the duties of this job, the employee is designated to a production floor location and frequently works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to dust, heat and sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable. <br /><br />May require exposure to hazardous equipment or physical hazards; requires wearing protective and/or safety equipment. Safety glasses with side shields and steel-toe shoes are required in all areas of the production floor. <br /><br />May work at different workstations as production needs require or shift from one work cell to another during the production process. Work requires meeting performance deadlines and being exact or highly accurate; requires face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams and working with others in a group or team.
Requirements: <div id="Jobs_JobDetail_JobRequiredSkillsText"> <ul> <li>High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines, and/or tools.</li> <li>Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions, and decimals. Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.</li> <li>Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
