Overview: The purpose of this position is to create, implement and manage an effective marketing, sponsorship media and social media relations agenda and supporting programs for Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall (VWPAH). The incumbent may be required to represent the Executive Director and the VWPAH, with respect to marketing and public relations issues to the City Commission, the City Manager, the general public, sponsors, groups and funders as appropriate
Responsibilities: <strong>Essential Functions</strong> <ul> <li>Creates, develops and implements media and social media relations and marketing agendas, strategies and supporting programs for the VWPAH, and for each individual event or series of events and the Education program, to gain increased positive exposure and sales for scheduled events, the VWPAH and the City of Sarasota.</li> <li>Acts as liaison with show marketing directors, publicists, and others to acquire promotional materials for marketing initiatives.</li> <li>Identifies target markets and most effective methods for reaching target markets and implements selected methods through direct mail, advertising, print, electronic and social media and/or other strategies.</li> <li>As assigned, represents the Executive Director and the VWPAH, with respect to marketing and/or media relations issues, to the City Commission, City Manager, civic groups, service clubs and other local, regional and national organizations, at various public forums, and elsewhere as required in activities to promote continuing support of VWPAH programs and events.</li> <li>Coordinates and/or supervises preparation and appropriate distribution of brochures, flyers and other promotional materials.</li> <li>Schedules, prepares and/or coordinates, as appropriate, VWPAH media copy, press releases, signs, Facebook and Twitter announcements and media interviews.</li> <li>Advises the Executive Director, VWPAH or designated representative, regarding issues and concerns relating to public relations, marketing and related issues; provides authoritative and comprehensive reports as required on sales and grants, etc.</li> <li>Coordinate with Box Office Manager for "on sales" and works in concert with the Executive Director and Booking Department on ticket pricing, discounts and special offers.</li> <li>Maintains contacts with marketing and public relations staff of other regional performing arts facilities.</li> <li>May co-host the monthly&nbsp;<em>At the Van Wezel</em>&nbsp;TV show with the Executive Director.</li> <li>Responds to inquiries from the media, elected and appointed officials, professional associations, business organizations, producers, agents, community and civic groups and other members of the public concerning VWPAH marketing issues, performances and related issues.</li> <li>Coordinates the preparation, production and distribution of the VWPAH Annual Brochure, Mid-Season Brochure, Subscription Brochure, Education Brochure, Press Lists and others.</li> <li>Ensures that all promotional mailing, telephone, e-mail, facsimile and other contact lists remain current.</li> <li>Solicits and encourages corporate sponsorships and related revenue producing advertising.</li> <li>Plans, directs and conducts a variety of marketing studies for the VWPAH.&nbsp; Supervises the preparation of reports and recommendations; prepares implementation plans and supervises the implementation of major recommendations accepted.</li> <li>Makes periodic reports to the Executive Director, VWPAH or designated representative, on the current state of marketing and public relations programs, including recommendations for needed improvements.</li> <li>The intent of this class description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of classifications given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.&nbsp; This job is ever changing and incumbent will assume new responsibilities as directed by the General Manager or Executive Director.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong> <ul> <li>A Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university in Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, or Marketing, preferably in a theater environment; or similar field</li> <li>Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience, preferably in a performing arts center environment, two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or the equivalent in education, training and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <strong>Job Based Competencies</strong> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations, marketing and their application to public non-profit performing arts centers.</li> <li>Knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures, methods and legal issues pertaining to performing arts marketing, community and public relations and other aspects of performing arts marketing, as well as budgeting, accounting and similar aspects of fiscal management.</li> <li>Knowledge and understanding of the opportunities and methodology for obtaining and administering grants, including management, accounting and reporting requirements and procedures.</li> <li>Skill in organizing and managing functions and activities relating to community relations.</li> <li>Skill to work with Graphic Designers on visualizing and conceptualization of VWPAH visual images, website and development for brochures, flyers, eBlasts, etc.</li> <li>Knowledge of working with and ability to adapt to changing new trends in marketing such as mobile platforms, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Travelzoo, Groupon and other items.</li> <li>Ability to procure, through various sales approaches, greater financial investment by the community and the corporate sector, to promote the financial success of the VWPAH.</li> <li>Ability to deal successfully with individuals representing a wide variety of VWPAH current and prospective, private, public, corporate and other financial contributors, VWPAH patrons, and others.</li> <li>Ability to plan, assign, direct, coordinate, review and evaluate the work of subordinate staff engaged in the various professional, and administrative functions comprising theatrical marketing and public relations.</li> <li>Ability to analyze and prioritize programmatic requirements and activities and to identify problems and initiate corrective measures so as to maximize marketing and public relations program effectiveness.</li> <li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.</li> <li>Ability to work changing and irregular shifts, nights, weekends and holidays.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products.&nbsp;</li> <li>Knowledge of various marketing based software programs.</li> <li>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with the Van Wezel Foundation, VWPAH staff, professional associations, business organizations, producers, agents, the media, community civic groups and other members of the public.</li> </ul>
