Overview: To provide professional level installation, maintenance and operational support services for the City's Telecommunications Network, including systems hardware, systems software, and related equipment.
Responsibilities: &bull; Investigates problems related to telecommunications equipment.<br />&bull; Uses electronic testing equipment to&nbsp;solve telecommunications systems and equipment problems.<br />&bull; Maintains external vendor relationships to provide supplementary services.<br />&bull; Installs and repairs telecommunications system components.<br />&bull; Consults with users to gather information in order to determine requirements for implementation of telecommunications systems.<br />&bull; Provides guidance and technical advice to users regarding systems criteria and specifications.<br />&bull; Reviews telecommunications systems plans for completeness and accuracy.<br />&bull; Tests and modifies system segments to evaluate and determine adequacy of system in meeting user and technical requirements.<br />&bull; Maintains network licensing and support renewals.<br />&bull;&nbsp;Researches, evaluates and tests potential solutions for future utilization.<br />&bull; The intent of this class description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of classifications given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Requirements: <strong>Minimum Qualifications:</strong><br /><br />&bull; Associate Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, engineering, business administration, mathematics or a related field,<br />&bull; Four (4) years of responsible experience in computer programming and systems analysis and design; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.<br />&bull; CJIS certification required&nbsp;within three (3) months of date of&nbsp;hire. This is a fingerprinted level II national criminal background check.<br />&bull; Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) is preferred or must obtain within one year of employment.<br /><br /><strong>Job Based Competencies:<br /><br /></strong>&bull; Familiarity with vCenter, Cisco, NetApp/Dell SAN, Net Motion, Windows Server, KBOX, or Microsoft SQL a plus.<br />&bull; Knowledge of telecommunications principles, system design, equipment, operating characteristics, capabilities, limitations, requirements, procedures and terminology.<br />&bull; Knowledge of information technology equipment, terminology and procedures.<br />&bull; Knowledge of telecommunications equipment installation, maintenance and repair.<br />&bull; Knowledge of telecommunications software and protocols.<br />&bull; Knowledge of applicable statutes and regulations governing telecommunications systems and networks.<br />&bull; Ability to apply network monitoring systems to gauge performance and to make recommendations for improvement based on analysis of results.<br />&bull; Ability to analyze technical problems and do abstract problem solving.<br />&bull; Ability to read, interpret/design network drawings, specifications, blueprints, sketches and schematics for network server and communications equipment.<br />&bull; Ability to perform skilled repair and installation of communications and related equipment.<br />&bull; Ability to analyze and prioritize methods, procedures, needed system maintenance and other activities to arrive at and provide valid recommendations and plans of action.<br />&bull; Ability to communicate technical and other data effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing, and to prepare and present succinct, coherent and technically accurate reports.<br />&bull; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, other City departments, officials and the general public.<strong><br /></strong>
