Probationary Full-Time

$44,163.18 - $56,307.89 annually

Overview: Works in an engineering office or field as a responsible sub-professional technician. Performs highly skilled technical and supervisory work in an office environment or field environment or Land Survey Crew as party chief.
Responsibilities: &bull; Operates all types of surveying and measuring instruments, including laser.<br />&bull; Keeps notes and supervises operations of survey party.<br />&bull; Makes field calculations and determines plan of field procedures.<br />&bull; Inspects construction for conformance with plans and specifications.<br />&bull; Designs municipal engineering projects and draws maps, designs and graphs.<br />&bull; Inspects all construction in the public right-of-way within assigned areas.<br />&bull; Inspects all work pertaining to drainage for private and city developments.<br />&bull; Assists with the review of site and development plans of private development.<br />&bull; Provides first line technical and training assistance for the Engineering Technicians I and II.<br />&bull; Performs such other duties as may be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.<br />&bull; Coordinates customer request for service and disseminates information in regard to needed information about public facilities.<br />&bull; The intent of this class description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that would be required of classifications given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Requirements: <strong>Minimum Qualifications<br /><br /></strong>Graduation from a standard high school supplemented with completion of two (2) years of curriculum leading toward an Engineering Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent technical engineering courses. Three (3) years of progressively responsible engineering related experience; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License is required. Completion of a supervisory training course within one (1) year of employment is required.<br /><br /><strong>Job Based Competencies</strong><br /><br />&bull; Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and land surveying or water/waste water systems engineering.<br />&bull; Skill in the use and maintenance of field and office equipment.<br />&bull; Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.<br />&bull; Ability to perform design of moderately difficult engineering projects and to develop plans and specifications for it.<br />&bull; Ability to supervise and assist a survey party.<br />&bull; Knowledge of construction specifications, plans and regulations and ability to read and interpret such.<br />&bull; Physical ability to work out of doors in various weather conditions.<br />&bull; Ability to understand, follow and transmit complex written and oral instructions and exercise independent judgment.<br />&bull; Skill in the use of programmable computers desirable.<br />&bull; Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.<br />&bull; Proficient in the use of drafting equipment and materials.<br />&bull; Ability to produce professional finished engineering drawings, sketches, charts and graphs.<br />&bull; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors and the general public.
