Overview: Provides supervision and coordination of the work of the Zoning Division. Insures conformity to the Zoning ordinance through the divisions' examination of plans and through site inspections. Assigns work to various employees to ensure that all necessary functions are performed and that each person has a fair share of the work.
Responsibilities: &bull; Supervises, directs and coordinates the activities of the Zoning Division.<br />&bull; Supervises review of site plans by the Zoning Analyst and Inspectors.<br />&bull; Consults and interacts with contractors, engineers, architects, the general public and other departments.<br />&bull; Monitors the quality of work of the Zoning Division as required to insure competent and efficient implementation of the Zoning Codes.<br />&bull; Assists in the modification of the Zoning Code.<br />&bull; Makes field inspections when necessary.<br />&bull; Prosecutes cases for the Code Enforcement Board.<br />&bull; Is responsible for pretrial examination and review of cases with the Code Enforcement Inspector.<br />&bull; Seeks legal opinions from legal counsel when necessary.<br />&bull; Attends Planning Board, Board of Adjustment and City Commission meetings.<br />&bull; Is responsible for the budget for the Zoning Division.<br />&bull; Is responsible for developing educational programs for the Zoning Division.<br />&bull; Initiates changes as well as new programs to the database.<br />&bull; The intent of this class description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that would be required of classifications given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Requirements: <strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong> <p>An Associate Degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years experience in planning, zoning or related work; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities is required. Completion of a supervisory training course within one (1) year of employment is required. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License is required.</p> <strong>Job Based Competencies</strong> <p>&bull; Knowledge of Municipal Law, Boards and their function.<br />&bull; Knowledge of enforcement practices is an essential component of this position.<br />&bull; Knowledge of the principals and practices of zoning as applied to the enforcement of zoning regulations.<br />&bull; Knowledge of planning methods and other development ordinances.<br />&bull; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, contractors and fellow employees.<br />&bull; Ability to understand and interpret plans and specifications.<br />&bull; Ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in both written and oral form.<br />&bull; Ability to organize and present cases for prosecution of code violations.</p>
