Overview: To perform janitorial and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance of City-owned and operated buildings and facilities.
Responsibilities: &bull; Makes semi-skilled repairs on buildings and notifies supervisor concerning repair work that may include minor repairs of masonry, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical work and carpentry.<br />&bull; Maintains cleanliness of buildings and facilities.<br />&bull; Mops hallways and floors; cleans and dusts offices.<br />&bull; Arranges chairs and furniture in an orderly fashion.<br />&bull; Washes windows, walls, woodwork and window blinds.<br />&bull; Vacuums, sweeps, mops and waxes floors and shampoos carpets.<br />&bull; Gathers and disposes of refuse in appropriate receptacles.<br />&bull; Polishes furniture and brass.<br />&bull; Inspects facilities and installs new light bulbs when needed.<br />&bull; Cleans and supplies restrooms daily.<br />&bull; Checks for proper heating and cooling of buildings.<br />&bull; Opens and locks buildings for meetings and/or other events.<br />&bull; Maintains inventory of required cleaning supplies.<br />&bull; Moves furniture and equipment when requested for meeting preparations.<br />&bull; Raises and lowers flag.<br />&bull; Performs minor building maintenance tasks.<br />&bull; Performs limited outside work such as picking up paper and debris on outside grounds/lawns.<br />&bull; Assures security of assigned facility while working and secures when work is complete.<br />&bull; Takes precautions to ensure a safe working environment when cleaning, moping or completing repairs by utilizing personal protective equipment and caution signage.<br />&bull; The intent of this class description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of classifications given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Requirements: <strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong><br /><br />&bull; High School or GED.<br />&bull; One (1) year of janitorial experience, preferably with some experience in semi-skilled repair work. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.<br />&bull; Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License is required for positions within the Public Works Department.<br /><br /><strong>Job Based Competencies</strong><br /><br />&bull; Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.<br />&bull; Working knowledge of maintenance and custodial requirements and procedures.<br />&bull; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and the general public and may plan and supervise the work of other custodial staff.<br />&bull; Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.<br />&bull; Ability to perform custodial duties and direct others in it.<br />&bull; Ability to work shifts or afternoon/evening/night hours as required.
