Overview: The Director, Accounting is responsible for directing, coordinating, maintaining, and controlling an accounting system, liquidity position, and reporting system that properly and accurately reflects the financial position of the Credit Union. This role functions as a member of the Senior Management Team, participates in establishing and implementing major goals and objectives of the CU, and serves as a resource in all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and liquidity management; ensures accurate internal and external reporting of financial transactions to all relevant regulatory agencies; manages accounting and finance-related projects; attends and participates in ALCO meetings; ensures accounting activities are in compliance with established legal, regulatory, and CU procedures.
Responsibilities: <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Responsible for upholding and adhering to CommonWealth One FCU brand standards including following all the aspects of our unique culture journey program, with emphasis on delivering top level member service every time.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Responsible for developing short and long-term goals and objectives for the Accounting Department.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Develops and implements operational plans, policies, and procedures for the Department which further Credit Union objectives. Continually evaluates established policies and procedures and updates or modifies them as necessary. Ensures that policies are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and industry trends.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Manages financial information and control systems, including general ledger, budgeting, cost allocation, mortgage accounting, and other subsystems. Periodically reviews management's information needs and modifies reporting as needed.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Management of all aspects of the CU general ledger, including cash and due from financial institutions, investments, accounts receivable, prepaids and accruals, payroll, fixed assets, mortgage loans, loan participations, and investments.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Responsible for effective preparation, maintenance, and reporting of internal and external financial records and analyses. Oversees development and preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other financial statements and reports, including reports to the Board of Directors. Ensures reports provide adequate operating and financial data. Ensures that records and reports are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and government regulations.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Performs and oversees special studies for management, such as cost analyses, ratio and trend analyses, analysis of new products and services, and other comparative examinations. Detects and analyzes trends in financial data.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Responsible for time and accurate completion of all regulatory filings.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
Requirements: <p><strong><u>Performance Expectations</u></strong></p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Participates in the preparation of general budget and all operation budgets.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Monitor and forecast current and future cash position. Assist in management of liquidity and interest rate risk. Participates in the Asset Liability Management Committee.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Prepares reports and analyses of departmental and branch operations and performance.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with key Credit Union personnel and management. Includes coordinating functions with other departments; assisting and supporting Credit Union personnel, responding to questions and information needs, and keeping management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Effectively supervises the department staff, ensuring optimal performance. Provides leadership to department personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts performance appraisals as required. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective business relations with vendors, outside auditors, and regulators, and with professional trade groups.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Stays informed of trends and changes in the accounting, mortgage servicing, construction, secondary markets, payroll, and tax fields.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Completes special accounting projects as assigned.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Education &amp; Experience</u></strong></p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in accounting.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Advanced degree or CPA are strongly preferred.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Five to eight years of related progressive financial and/or accounting experience at a bank or credit union with assets &gt; $500 million.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Significant supervisory experience required.</p> <p><strong><u>​</u></strong></p> <p><strong><u>Skills &amp; Abilities</u></strong></p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices, procedures, and reporting.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Thorough knowledge of governmental regulations and reporting requirements.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Experience managing audits and regulatory reviews.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Understanding of Credit Union operations and information needs.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Strong communication abilities.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Solid organizational skills.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Excellent analytical abilities</p>
