Overview: <p><strong>Must also be willing to pick up shifts at Whatcom Crisis Triage Center in Bellingham, WA as a secondary program staff member.</strong></p> <p>As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Medication Nurse plays a key role in supporting clients&rsquo; recovery by administering medications, monitoring responses, and providing individualized medication education. Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Administer prescribed medications, monitor client responses, and provide individualized medication education.</li> <li>Transcribe medication orders from psychiatric prescribers accurately and in compliance with clinical standards.</li> <li>Collaborate with the treatment team regarding medication compliance, effectiveness, and side effects.</li> <li>Stock, order, and maintain medications and medical supplies; coordinate with external pharmacies as needed.</li> <li>Help maintain a therapeutic and recovery-oriented milieu.</li> <li>Conduct medication education groups as assigned.</li> <li>Take phone orders from providers for medications or treatments and ensure timely documentation.</li> <li>Perform ordered blood draws and coordinate with external laboratories.</li> <li>Respond promptly to medical emergencies and perform appropriate nursing, medical, or first aid interventions.</li> <li>Participate in supervision and team meetings.</li> <li>Remain compliant with required trainings and certifications.</li> <li>Adhere to ethical and professional standards consistent with Compass Health policy, state law, and licensing regulations.</li> <li>Safeguard client protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and agency policy.</li> <li>Demonstrate respect for diversity and commitment to developing multicultural competency and sensitivity.</li> <li>Support Compass Health&rsquo;s Strategic Intention, Core Values, and Core Competencies.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Current Washington State LPN <span class="modified">- Licensed Practical Nurse </span>license.</li> <li>Two (2) years of psychiatric nursing experience preferred.</li> <li>Current&nbsp;<strong>First Aid &amp; CPR certification</strong>, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.</li> </ul> <br /> <p><strong>Skills &amp; Abilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Strong understanding of psychotropic medication use, side effects, and interactions.</li> <li>Knowledge of nursing principles and intervention strategies relevant to behavioral health populations.</li> <li>Familiarity with involuntary commitment laws and related nursing procedures.</li> <li>Ability to stay calm and solution-focused during high-stress or crisis situations.</li> <li>Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li> <li>General computer proficiency, including the use of electronic medical record (EMR) systems.</li> <li>Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, which may include an additional DSHS search.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Physical Demands/Work Environment</strong></p> <p>This position is based in a triage facility and requires the ability to physically participate in managing aggressive behaviors when necessary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and use close vision.
