Overview: Working under minimal supervision of the Manager, Sales and Use Tax, referring only exceptional problems and issues for management review or approval, the Sales Tax Analyst handles all aspects of monthly and quarterly sales and use tax compliance including reconciliation of sales and use tax activity. Exercising independent judgment and discretion, the Analyst provides the sales tax data to an outside third party who prepares over 150 monthly returns that remit over $4 million each month to all states within the US.
Responsibilities: The Analyst reviews the completed tax returns and focuses on minimizing sales tax risk through accurate and timely filing. As the primary contact between the Company and our outside service provider, the Analyst ensures sales tax collection is accurate in accordance with ongoing compliance rules and regulations. The Analyst maintains the Company's product taxability chart and provides support on daily internal and external sales tax requests. As directed, the Analyst assists with responses to sales and use tax audits received from taxing jurisdictions. <div id="gtx-trans" style="position: absolute; left: -17px; top: 26px;">&nbsp;</div>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience in accounting or finance.​</li> <li>Minimum of 4 years experience in progressively responsible roles in a sales operations or finance area involved with sales and use tax</li> <li>Intermediate technical skills with ability to learn how to utilize JDE as our primary ERP system.</li> <li>Intermediate technical skills with ability to learn how to utilize JDE as our primary ERP system.</li> <li>Working knowledge of online researching with ability to utilize RIA and Checkpoint software</li> <li>Minimal working knowledge of state sales tax laws required to start with ability to continue learning to master the various laws and regulations by state.</li> <li>Organizational skills and attention to detail is critical in dealing with a high volume of data.</li> <li>Familiarity with sales tax issues and the ability to successfully resolve problems of a routine to complex nature.</li> <li>Working knowledge of general ledger accounting with the ability to prepare journal entries.</li> <li>Systematic advanced reasoning skills with ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions</li> <li>Good listening skills with ability to receive information completely and understand what is being said</li> <li>Adaptable with ability to switch tasks based on shifting priorities</li> <li>Articulate with ability to express oneself clearly and professionally in written and oral communication</li> <li>Detail oriented with item by item focus, meticulous attention to detail with ability to proofread for accuracy</li> <li>Judgment with ability to formulate opinions, compare and decide with good sense</li> <li>Organized state of mind with ability to document activities, anticipate problems, plan schedules and monitor performance according to priorities and deadlines</li> <li>Experience using VERTEX sales tax software is a plus.</li> <li>2 years of work experience in the value added reseller industry preferred</li> </ul>
