Overview: The Assistant Head of School at Detroit Prep, in collaboration with the Head of School, will make mission-driven decisions for student and faculty achievement and will strategically implement the school&rsquo;s mission through effective leadership of and engagement with all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and our community. The Assistant Head of School at Detroit Prep is responsible for supervising and developing a dynamic faculty who set high expectations for our students and support our students as they work toward and meet these expectations. The Assistant Head of School must see student success (both academic and social-emotional development) in collaboration with the Head of School as paramount and it should guide work with teachers, staff, students, and parents. The Assistant Head of School is responsible for managing Detroit Prep&rsquo;s instructional program and school culture as the Head of School deems necessary to reach the mission and goals of Detroit Prep. The Assistant Head of School reports to the Head of School of Detroit Prep. <br /><br />Depending on timing, availability, and candidate experience, Detroit Prep&rsquo;s Assistant Head of School will attend all necessary pre-service trainings; travel may be required. <br /><br />The Assistant Head of School will begin work on July 1, 2019. The Assistant Head of School will be expected to spend no fewer than three full days at Detroit Prep during the current school year.
Responsibilities: <strong>Curriculum/Programs</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Commits to / owns a vision of child-centered, inquiry-based education that develops children in three areas of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills,development of positive habits of character, and the ability to produce high-quality work</li> <li>Create and fine tune school wide long term plans across grade levels &amp; subjects based on curriculum map</li> <li>Ensure DP teachers understand and fully implement the curriculum as detailed in the curriculum frameworks</li> <li>Develop and oversee plans for curriculum review and development working closely with the Detroit Achievement Academy (DP&rsquo;s sister school) Principal and Executive Director</li> <li>Lead teachers in developing unit plans &amp; daily lesson plans across subject areas</li> <li>Tailor expeditions, experts and fieldwork for Detroit Prep in collaboration with Head of School and CAO</li> <li>Review plans developed by teachers and provide feedback based on assessed level of need</li> <li>Support teachers in developing effective lessons and differentiated supports that build curiosity and support all students</li> <li>Implement data-driven coaching cycles for teachers in alignment with the assessment calendar</li> <li>Provide actionable feedback to teachers around instruction and classroom management in alignment with Management in the Active Classroom and Responsive Classroom frameworks</li> <li>Model instructional practices in the facilitation of professional development</li> <li>Conduct demonstration lessons as needed or requested by teachers and Head of School</li> <li>Provide teachers with resources that support best instructional practices</li> <li>Work with grade level teams to support common instructional practices &amp; alignment</li> <li>Co-facilitate teacher labs and/or learning walks</li> <li>Ensure curriculum resources reflect the diversity of our student population.</li> <li>Communicate frequently with the Specials Department to support strong cross-curricular programs at the school</li> <li>Support after school programming as needed/requested. Ensure programs are adequately staffed and well defined</li> <li>Ensure safety and consistent use of Responsive Classroom/Management In the Active Classroom, and our schoolʼs Behavior Tiers and discipline policies.</li> </ul>
