Overview: <div class="ant-row css-pgvwaq"> <div class="sanitized-html w-full"> <p>Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm</p> </div> </div> <div class="ant-row css-pgvwaq"> <div class="sanitized-html w-full"> <p><br />The WIC Medium Risk Nutritionist, under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty, conducts and documents nutrition assessments, nutrition education and counseling for health and breast-feeding services/promotion and other duties essential for the operation of the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).<br /><br /></p> <p>The WIC Medium Risk Nutritionist is accountable to the following El Rio Health WIC Program specific goals:</p> <ul> <li>Every participant is provided services utilizing the participant centered services delivery model.&nbsp;</li> <li>Supports and promotes every mother&rsquo;s goal for breastfeeding.</li> <li>Encourages and empowers families to incorporate healthy lifestyle choices supporting healthy growth and weight.</li> </ul> </div> </div>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Provides medium-risk counseling, formula authorization under the direction of a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).</li> <li>Provides nutrition care for low risk participants at (re)certification and follow-up which includes all aspects of anthropometric and hematological data collection, dietary and nutritional risk assessment, food benefit package assignment, nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education, documentation and nutrition data entry, health and social service referrals and follow-up nutrition education.</li> <li>Utilizes ADIME professional documentation format for all Medium Risk and Low Risk participants. Prepares professional documentation in the TGIF format. All documentation is competed on same day as WIC Medium Risk Nutritionist consult/service.</li> <li>Maintains working knowledge of and ability to use universal health precautions to avoid infection, and ability to properly operate various medical equipment, such as hemocue machine, scales, measuring devices, and media equipment.</li> <li>Consults with client&rsquo;s health care providers as indicated on dietary habits, needs, and dietary prescriptions, reviewing client&rsquo;s nutrition education.</li> <li>Provides counseling in a participant-centered manner through motivational interviewing and emotion-based counseling with the goal of eliciting behavior change.</li> <li>Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary WIC team in clinic scheduling, caseload monitoring, and outreach; works with other program staff and disciplines to enhance integration and quality of service.</li> <li>Assists WIC Nutrition Services Manager and/or WIC Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in training paraprofessional WIC staff (Nutrition Education Specialists).</li> <li>Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.</li> <li>Performs program support duties including, preparing reports and documents; assisting in updating Local Agency policy and procedure manuals and resolves WIC specific computer/software related problems.</li> <li>Complies with all facility policies and procedures including but not limited to those addressing HIPAA and Compliance.</li> <li>Receives training and attend appropriate in-services to enhance competency.</li> <li>Participates in general WIC clinic office duties</li> <li>Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.</li> <li>Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.</li> </ul> <br /> <strong>Other Duties and Responsibilities:</strong> <br /> <ul> <li>In support of the Mission and Vision of El Rio Health, will at all times represent themselves as a professional role model of El Rio Health serving as a positive informational source for members of the community.</li> <li>Supports El Rio by participating in community events which promote good health and which contribute to a broader awareness and understanding of El Rio Health and the many services provided to the community.</li> <li>Participates in all appropriate health care activities related to El Rio Health on a local, state, and national level to maintain and enhance El Rio&rsquo;s image with health agencies, professional associations, and the public.</li> <li>Ensures and supports the cost-effective use of materials, supplies, and equipment by limiting waste of all organizational supplies and resources.</li> <li>In accordance with policies and procedures ensure that documentation of hours worked is completed accurately, as well as signed-off/approved in a timely manner.</li> <li>Employees must maintain their skills proficiency with El Rio operating systems and/or software programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to software, system, and program improvements or upgrades.</li> <li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in nutrition or related field community nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition education, dietetics, human nutrition, nutrition science.</li> <li>One (1) year of experience in nutrition education counseling in a maternal/child or clinical setting.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><em>If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.</em></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.&nbsp;</li> <li>Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.</li> <li>Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver&rsquo;s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities:</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Three (3) years&rsquo; experience in nutrition education counseling in a maternal/child or clinical setting, experience with the Women's, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition program desirable.
