Provides excellent customer service to our patients, external and internal customers.<strong>&nbsp;</strong>Provides and fosters a positive, professional, and productive environment with the laboratory department.</p> <p>The primary goal of the El Rio Health Phlebotomist is to support El Rio&rsquo;s Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions</p> </div> </div>
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Functions as Phlebotomist performing blood draws by venipuncture for all ages.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Monitors quality control on all supplies, equipment, and appliances at all drawing sites.</li> <li>Performs insurance verification through the computer using the intranet, practice management system, and phone.</li> <li>Greets and checks in patients onto the practice management schedule, collects co-payments, opens, and closes postings of all collections, and submission of money bags to accounting.</li> <li>Prepares and provides instructions for collection of patient samples.</li> <li>Learns and maintains all of recording and filing systems within department.</li> <li>Delivers all Stat or Critical results to provider or RN staff as needed.</li> <li>Inputs laboratory orders for El Rio and reference laboratories in electronic health record system or laboratory information system.</li> <li>Retrieves patient results from all laboratories systems upon requests.</li> <li>Complies with all laboratory and facility policies and procedures.</li> <li>Orders supplies needed for specimen collection, specimen transport, and office supplies from department and reference laboratories.</li> <li>Responsible to ensure all sample collection supplies are of quality.</li> <li>Provides a work environment safe and free from hazards; immediately address or inform management of safety issues or potential hazards; adhere to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.</li> <li>Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Process and separates blood from serum and prepares samples for testing.</li> <li>Prepares all send out samples to reference laboratories according to reference laboratories requirements.</li> <li>Maintain exceptional level of customer service; address and resolve complaints; serve as an example by providing excellent service to internal and external customers, employees, and patients.</li> <li>Resolve and troubleshoot test in question or missing specimens from reference laboratories.</li> <li>Resolve all missing encounters and resubmit missing charges.</li> <li>Provide support for patient invoices from reference laboratories.</li> <li>Coordination of dispatch and courier pick up requests for STAT specimens.</li> <li>Travel to other clinic locations when needed.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Consults with clinicians and medical staff on matters related to laboratory services.</li> <li>Maintains phlebotomy, PKU, Stat, redraw, rejection, temperature, and critical/panic logs.</li> <li>Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Minimum Education and Experience:</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or G.E.D.</li> <li>Certificate from accredited school for Phlebotomy and/or at least two (2) years&rsquo; experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Laboratory Assistant or Preferred Patient Care Technician (PCT)</li> </ul> <p><em>&nbsp;</em></p> <p><em>If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.</em></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong><u>Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.&nbsp;</li> <li>Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.</li> <li>Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver&rsquo;s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities:</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Certificate from accredited school for Phlebotomy.</li> <li>Five (5) or more years&rsquo; experience as Phlebotomist or Medical Laboratory Assistant.</li> <li>Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write&nbsp;in both languages.</li> </ul>
