Overview: The Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing estimates and bids for projects by accurately performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing project plans and engineered details, reviewing specification and special provisions, requesting quotes from subcontractors and vendors, researching travel and related mobilization expenses, collating and completing bid documents for bid submission, and thinking critically in order to get a step up on the competition. The Cost Estimator must follow company procedures to facilitate and define project scope, as well as prepare accurate cost proposals in a deadline-driven environment.&nbsp; Development of project schedules and the determination of crew resources based upon required production rates is another essential function the cost estimator must be able to perform in order to meet the Owner&rsquo;s deadlines.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Read and understand all bid documents in order to produce accurate estimates.</li> <li>Understand the bidding process for efficient time management.</li> <li>Cooperation and collaboration with Lead Estimator.</li> <li>Build relationship with subcontractors and vendors to minimize costs.</li> <li>Review subcontractor and vendor quotes for related assumptions and exclusions.</li> <li>In cases where discrepancies existing in the bid documents the Cost Estimator must be able to professionally and logically submit RFIs to the Owner for further clarification.</li> <li>Perform value engineering and cost analysis of optimal construction methods and design alternatives.</li> <li>Develop cost proposal that define a scope of work and clearly state all assumptions and exclusions to minimize risk and liability within each proposal.</li> <li>Effective communication with the owner and/or General Contractors is essential to make sure that we are working to develop the most economical price.</li> <li>All quantities and material pricing must be double and triple check for accuracy.</li> <li>Helps identify and resolve deviations in the scope of work throughout the course of the project.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>B.S. Construction Management or Civil Engineering Preferred.</li> <li>Project management and/or construction experience is required.</li> <li>Previous experience as cost estimator is required.</li> <li>Regular attendance and timeliness is required.</li> <li>Must have strong organizational skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and pay strong attention to detail.</li> <li>Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.</li> <li>Ability to effectively communicate with administration, project managers and construction staff.</li> <li>Experience with Maxwell/ProContractor preferred.</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>Essential Physical Requirements:</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>May require periods of travel (5%-10%).</li> <li>May require extended periods of sitting.</li> <li>May require extended periods of concentration.</li> <li>May require finger and wrist dexterity.</li> <li>Regular attendance and timeliness.</li> </ul>
