You will provide the company with effective general accounting and general ledger, revenue recognition, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, risk management, and credit and cost accounting. This is your chance to help grow a business and to build something from the ground up, hone your leadership skills by building a team, and get the opportunity to develop your abilities and our overall process.</p> <p><strong>Who you are</strong></p> <p>You are most likely already working within the Public sector and may also have previous telecom experience. You have effective experience building and managing a finance department from the ground up. You are extremely creative, a proactive decision maker, and you maintain a high level of personal integrity. You are familiar with managing financial reporting systems, can quickly identify and implement new ERP systems, and can develop and organize systems policies and procedures. You are an excellent communicator, both written and oral and you are constantly seeking new ways of improving standard procedures, reducing errors and overcoming omissions. You are also able to work remotely, and are able to provide yourself with the environment needed to do so effectively. Finally, you must be curious, ask questions, and have a desire to understand how things work.</p>
Responsibilities: <p><strong>As the new Controller, you will:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ensure accurate and timely reporting of results and that a proper analysis and explanation of variances is included.</li> <li>Close the month end with preliminary revenue and EBITDA in five (5) business days with a management report completed within ten (10) business days of month end.</li> <li>Design and administer Corporate Accounting Policies, procedures, authorities guide and internal controls for general accounting, credit, accounts receivable, payroll, travel expenditure, and purchasing/payables.</li> <li>Prepare and review monthly manual journal entries, accruals and reversals.</li> <li>Ensure appropriate cut-off at month end with accruals including proper supporting documentation for revenues, expenses and capital items.</li> <li>Coordinate construction project reporting, capital accounting and depreciation.</li> <li>Ensure accurate inventory reviewing book to physical and recommend adjustments when appropriate.</li> <li>Accurately prepare and complete the reports required under the credit agreement in a timely manner.</li> <li>Work with the auditors to support the year end audit along with other regulatory reporting requirements.</li> <li>Oversee accurate and appropriate accounting system processes by maintaining a current and working level knowledge of information systems.</li> <li>Maintain and process monthly payroll.</li> <li>Be responsible for the financial Integration of newly acquired businesses.</li> </ul> <p><strong>You will also be required to:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Stay current on federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, working with tax advisors and advising management on needed actions.</li> <li>Prepare, complete, and review monthly federal, provincial (ON, SK, QC, MB), filings, reports, returns and remittances.</li> <li>Oversee or prepare tax provision schedules.</li> <li>Oversee tax audits.</li> <li>Work to double our monthly recurring revenue.</li> </ul> <p>FlexNetworks is a fast-growing and entrepreneurial work environment, our new Controller will be expected to participate in ad-hoc projects from time to time, as business needs dictate. They will be required to provide due diligence support and expertise to the management team during business acquisitions.</p>
Requirements: <p><strong>A successful Controller will have:</strong></p> <ul> <li><em>The education and accreditation</em>. You have recognized accounting designation (CPA). You have a minimum of five (5) years experience, post-designation experience and a background with a substantial track record of growth in the financial role, ideally with demonstrated responsibility for full GAAP/IFRS financial statements for a business in a growth stage. You also currently have a valid driver&rsquo;s license.</li> <li><em>Industry experience</em>. You could have telecom, services, large equipment construction or project based industry experience, although it&rsquo;s not required. Business acquisition and purchase accounting experience is also considered an asset. You have great working knowledge of Quickbooks and other accounting systems as well as advanced Excel skills and Bookkeeping. You have a solid understanding and ability to use Salesforce, as well as a deep knowledge of pivot tables and macros.</li> <li><em>Support skills</em>. You will be expected to support the growth of FlexNetworks as the finance team member on acquisition due diligence activities, and later leading the integration of the new businesses. You appreciate the diversity of the work you are doing and understand its importance. As the business grows, the Controller along with the COO will be responsible to establish an office location most likely in the Kitchener/Waterloo area.</li> <li><em>Excellent communication</em>. You have excellent communication skills and a proven ability to manage an office. You are curious and aren&rsquo;t afraid to speak up and ask questions. You can work both independently, but also with a group of people.
