Overview: The Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg (the Foundation) has a bold mission to achieve health equity through race equity. We advance anti-racist practices and policies to improve the lives of all Pinellas County residents, and our employees are passionate about this shared purpose.<br /><br />The Communications Manager (CM / they) is responsible for supporting marketing and communication strategies and their execution. The position assists in guiding the communications and campaign needs of internal departments and is responsible for recommending and rejuvenating appropriate communications channels to inspire target audiences to engage with the Foundation&rsquo;s mission.<br /><br />The CM collaborates closely with the Executive Director of the Center for Health Equity, Chief Program Officer, Director of Grant Management and Administration, Strategic Initiatives Manager, and Center staff. They also coordinate the activities with external communications partners.
Responsibilities: <p><strong>Project management</strong>:&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.</li> <li>Coordinate the work of freelance designers, copywriters, editors, and web developers as needed.</li> <li>Maintain an internal media library of photos, videos, and audio clips.</li> <li>Develop tools and processes to support operational excellence of communications.</li> <li>Collaborate with vendors, maintaining positive work relationships and successful project management.</li> <li>Collect, maintain, analyze and offer recommendations based on marketing communications KPIs to track the success of approaches.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Creative</strong>:</p> <ul> <li>Familiarity with branding best practices.</li> <li>Comfort with process and timelines of executing print, social, digital, and written communications and corresponding design projects</li> <li>Experience in art direction and/or campaign management is preferred.</li> <li>The ability to capture and edit photos and videos is a plus.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Communications:</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills.</li> <li>Write and edit press releases and professional copy, in English.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bilingual skills in Spanish a plus.</li> <li>Collaborate with departments to develop communications that are linked to the Foundation&rsquo;s strategic mission and advocacy priorities.</li> <li>Assist in building, deploying a communications strategy for events, and tracking relevant KPIs to ensure their success.</li> <li>Write and distribute a monthly newsletter via Constant Contact.</li> <li>Maintain and update the Foundation&rsquo;s website, and corresponding mini-sites.</li> <li>Work with internal departments to translate lived experiences from diverse audiences into meaningful narratives to help achieve the Foundation&rsquo;s mission.</li> <li>Work with internal departments to ensure communications highlight relevant data.</li> <li>Create a repository of fast data facts, including toolkits for internal teammates and the public at large.</li> </ul> <strong>Social Media:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Utilize strong decision-making ability to assess the success of social media content using analytics reports from vendor.&nbsp;&nbsp;Assist in drafting content calendars for social media.</li> </ul> <strong>Public Relations:&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Coordinate activities with public relations firm to:</li> <li>Manage and coordinate responses for media inquiries and corporate communication requests.</li> <li>Improve the visibility and public reputation for the Foundation through earned and paid media.</li> <li>Write press releases and engage media contacts with pitches.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Partners/Assists with...</em></strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Support work across the Foundation&rsquo;s strategic pathways: The</strong>&nbsp;Foundation operates through three strategic pathways: Grantmaking, Strategic Initiatives, and the Center for Health Equity.&nbsp;&nbsp;There is the potential for powerful synergies when these pathways work as an integrated system.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Communications Manager actively works with staff across all three pathways, and the Evaluation team, to uncover and showcase the impact of Foundation work.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Also expected to...</em></strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Fiscal stewardship and vendor management</strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Manage vendor relationships related to marketing and communications.&nbsp;Negotiate costs, clearly communicate expectations, coordinate work, and hold vendors accountable for outcomes.&nbsp;Manage spending within budget, review vendor invoices for accuracy, and ensure invoices are submitted timely to Finance for processing.</li> <li><strong>Data integrity.</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;Ensure Foundation data is accurate and updated for areas related to role, including but not limited to the Foundation&rsquo;s CRM, grantmaking system, event management, and project management system.</li> <li><strong>Special projects and other responsibilities</strong>: The Foundation has a small and nimble staff which supports each other&rsquo;s work across departmental lines. Staff are expected to assist team members during peak periods as needed.&nbsp;</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Marketing, Communications, or another field with 3-5 years of relevant work experience.</li> <li>A comprehensive understanding of the social determinants of health is strongly preferred.</li> <li>Experience in social justice, human rights, or other health equity work preferred.</li> <li>Prior experience developing communications channels and new processes.</li> <li>Experience managing and collaborating with creative vendors.</li> <li>Some creative experience, including photography, videography and graphic design preferred.</li> <li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills.</li> <li>Proven ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.</li> <li>Experience managing multiple high-stakes projects within a large organization</li> <li>Prior success in developing cross functional strategic communication plans</li> <li>Ability to understand highly technical and scientific information and communicate that information to non-technical audiences.</li> <li>Ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment. Possesses strong critical thinking skills with an ability to find new ways of solving old problems.</li> <li>Able to organize, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.</li> <li>Experience with project planning and implementation preferred.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Software proficiency:</strong></p> <ul> <li><em>Required:</em>&nbsp; <ul> <li>Microsoft Office suite of applications, including SharePoint, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.</li> <li>Proficient in Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere).</li> <li>Knowledge of basic HTML, website design, SEO and content management (WordPress platform).</li> <li>Strong understanding of social media marketing and some experience using these channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn).</li> <li>Proficient in Constant Contact or MailChimp.</li> </ul> </li> <li><em>Preferred</em>: Asana (project management), Zoom</li> <li><em>A plus</em>:&nbsp;&nbsp;Fluxx (grant management), CRM platforms, CVENT (event management)</li> <li>Ability to work from Foundation offices and the Center for Health Equity in St. Petersburg.</li> <li>Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.</li> </ul>
