Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Manages the activities of assigned underwriting staff performing the commercial lines risk selection and rating activities within a multi-state insurance operation.</li> <li>Supports senior management in the development and implementation of commercial and farm underwriting processes that support overall corporate objectives.</li> <li>Analyzes the quality of risks underwritten and coordinates risk management-related training activities for field and corporate staff.</li> <li>Ensures established underwriting guidelines are followed by staff and area problems are resolved in a timely manner.</li> <li>Provides updates to senior management and staff regarding changes in regulatory requirements and revised procedures due to applicable legislation.</li> <li>Assists in the support and implementation of computer-assisted underwriting and related policy processing systems/programs and prepare area reports as required.</li> <li>Coordinates communications between agency management, claims, and sales regarding adverse account exposures and/or losses.</li> <li>Manages the activities, cost, and performance of the vendors that support the commercial underwriting function.</li> <li>Prepares and ensures adherence to the departmental budget including monitoring performance and taking corrective action to mitigate or reverse unfavorable variances.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <strong>Education (include minimum education and any licensing/certifications):</strong><br /> <ul> <li>College-level coursework in a related field</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Experience:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Five years of multi-state commercial P&amp;C insurance operations and jurisdictional underwriting</li> <li>Management of commercial underwriting, procedures, practices, and pricing</li> <li>Claims practices and procedures</li> <li>Accessing and usage of policy processing systems</li> <li>Management recruiting/training of commercial underwriting staff</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Knowledge of:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Multi-state compliance and regulatory issues</li> <li>Commercial property &amp; casualty products, pricing, and underwriting rules</li> <li>Commercial claims reserving, adjusting, and settlement practices</li> <li>Commercial policy and claims processing systems</li> <li>Commercial policy administration systems and payment processing</li> <li>Commercial workflow and procedures</li> <li>Commercial and farm classes of business and corresponding inherent exposures/controls</li> <li>Reinsurance contracts (quota-share and excess of loss)</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Ability to:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>organizational planning</li> <li>analyzing and problem-solving</li> <li>decision making</li> <li>coordinating, managing, and supporting major projects</li> <li>recruit, train, develop and coach commercial underwriting staff</li> <li>assess, develop, and update commercial underwriting procedures, practices, and pricing</li> <li>review commercial policies for adherence to internal manuals and UW letters of authority</li> <li>prepare and present departmental reports</li> <li>communicate effectively with others in a work environment with vendors and customers</li> <li>manage 3rd party vendor relationships that support the CL/Farm underwriting practice</li> <li>identify and resolve problems for favorable outcomes to Fremont, agencies, and insureds</li> <li>access policy processing systems to review and approve/reject exception referrals</li> <li>make recommendations to senior management</li> <li>represent the company before vendors, reinsurers, and agencies</li> <li>manage large projects to assist additional state expansion</li> <li>strong technical writing and oral presentation skills</li> </ul> <br /><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong><br /><br /><strong>Education:</strong><br /> <ul> <li>Bachelor degree in Business Administration or related field</li> <li>CPCU, ARM, CIC, CRM, CAWC, or CRIS</li> </ul> <br />Important Note: THE ABOVE STATEMENTS DESCRIBE THE PRINCIPAL AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, BUT NOT ALL FUNCTIONS THAT MAY BE INHERENT IN THE JOB.
