Friends of Ruby

Friends of Ruby (previously Egale Youth Services) was founded by Egale Canada in 2014 to meet the needs of LGBTQI2S youth in Toronto. To date, we have supported more than 900 youth, and prevented over 470 mental health crises and visits to hospital emergency rooms, saving nearly $300,000 in health care costs. At the Friends of Ruby's drop-in space, LGBTQI2S youth (16-29 years old) find meals, activities, support groups, and community. Responsibilities: <p><strong>How you will make a difference as our new HR Generalist:</strong></p> <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">End-to-end recruitment and retention. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will participate in the recruitment cycle, supporting the HR Manager and Hiring Managers to meet the organization's staffing requirements across all levels and departments. You will nurture partnerships with recruitment and employment agencies, universities and colleges, and community partners. You will review current recruitment practices and establish best practices and procedures for an equitable recruitment process.&nbsp;</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fostering an environment of equity and inclusion. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will build an anti-racism and anti-oppression work environment focusing on the LGTBQI2S, Black Indigenous, and People of Colour communities. You will implement guidelines on matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, introducing best practices into the organization and ensuring compliance with legislation such as the Ontario Human Rights Code. Based on your analysis, you will provide support and expertise on equity and human rights, guiding front-line staff and managers. You will lead Diversity and Inclusion programs and support for frontline staff and support in the creation and implementation of an ARAO forum for staff and management to work collaboratively.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Training and development. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will help identify training needs and provide opportunities for staff competencies, development, and professional growth; developing and coordinating in-house general training. You will assist with performance management and career planning.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Culture champion. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will be a role model living our values and representing a culture that ensures support and commitment to the organization's vision, mission, and goals, furthering a collaborative spirit through team building activities and staff appreciation initiatives.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Employee relations. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will manage employee issues including disciplinary actions, accommodations, compensations, disputes, etc., with confidentiality. Serving as a link between management and employees, you will be a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, answering questions, interpreting and administering employment terms, implementing change management strategies, helping resolve work-related problems.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Operations and policies. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will stay up to date on regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and adjust Human Resources policies and procedures accordingly. You will create a Human Resources Manual and an employee handbook. You will ensure the facility and services adequately meet the physical, social, and development needs of all staff and participants; including, the protection of each individual's health, safety, comfort, and well-being. You will implement the City of Toronto and Ministry of Health protocols towards COVID 19 measures.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">HR Administration. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will conduct research on compensation, employee benefits, and health practices and recommend changes to existing policies; addressing pay equity issues with the sector. You will support the HR Manager in the department's strategic planning, coordinating meetings, gathering and reporting on data, maintaining databases and records. You will maintain confidentiality related to all activities and information of a strategic or sensitive nature.</span></li> </ul>
Requirements: <p><strong>What you bring to the team as our new HR Generalist:</strong></p> <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">The education and experience. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You have a degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. You have 3+ years of human resource experience either in a generalist role or having direct exposure across all aspects of HR. CHRP/CHRL designation or actively working towards the designation will be considered an asset.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">The knowledge. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You have a deep understanding of labour laws, current provincial; legislation, employment and payroll standards, health and safety, organizational planning, recruitment, HRIS/Payroll systems, and employee development.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Exceptional interpersonal skills.</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> You have excellent verbal and writing skills, including documentation, reporting, and presenting. You can build trusting relationships with individuals at any level. You can work independently and as part of a team. You remain calm in situations that involve multiple demands, being able to shift priorities with ease and resiliency.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Additional requirements. </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">You have satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Police Check Program. You must be eligible to work in Canada legally. You are open to a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
