Overview: The Senior Manager, Media Communications will be responsible for driving media relations, crisis communications &amp; public relations for GE. This role reports to the Executive Director, Corporate Communications &amp; Reputation and consults both the Executive Director &amp; Chief Marketing &amp; Communications Officer to have a coordinated &amp; aligned media relationship for all PR.
Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director, Corporate Communications; Chief Marketing &amp; Communications Officer; Business Communicators; and Corporate Communications leaders on driving integrated and strategic communications programs, internally and externally, tied to desired business outcomes and strategies.</li> <li>Remain acutely attuned to all forms of news media coverage globally to be one step ahead in scenario planning for reactive measures.</li> <li>Sustain and enhance the company's reputation by effectively managing reputation risk issues to minimize its impact on business success and build public trust.</li> <li>Identify, analyze, and appropriately respond to global trends (e.g. market, socio-economic and regulatory news), issues and business activities that present current or potential risks and opportunities for the company.</li> <li>Interact with internal and external stakeholders to refine, improve and execute communication plans.</li> <li>Identify and build relationships with external influences including media, customers, suppliers, and others as needed to build a constituency to promote GE and facilitate GE&rsquo;s growth when related to crisis and PR.</li> <li>Act as a partner to executives and provide them with communications guidance on critical business issues.</li> <li>Craft clear and compelling written messaging that drive a desired response from the reader.</li> <li>Proactively develop and tell the company story in an engaging, compelling and persuasive manner in partnership with greater Corporate Marketing and Communication team members as well as business unit partners.</li> </ul>
Requirements: <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree from an accredited university or college, Masters or advanced degree a plus</li> <li>At least 10 years of communications and media relations experience covering crisis communications, PR or marketing communications, and global public affairs<br /><br /><em>US Work Authorization</em></li> </ul> <h2>Desired Characteristics:</h2> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, or Marketing is preferred</li> <li>Experience in corporate communications, public relations or government/ political campaign experience preferred</li> <li>Established relationships with a variety of media outlets including reporters and other key leaders</li> <li>Demonstrated experience acting as a trusted advisor to senior-level executives</li> <li>Strong oral and written communication skills</li> <li>Demonstrated experience building relationships with colleagues and with external stakeholders at all levels</li> <li>Broad and deep experience with and knowledge of print, video and social media and key drivers, metrics associated</li> <li>Ability to simplify strategy into specific actions with clear accountability, making decisions with speed and accuracy based on best available information, and communicating priorities clearly and concisely</li> <li>Ability to absorb, digest and distill highly technical subject matter into clear and concise content</li> <li>Ability to energize others by building a connection with the business teams and Communications teams through personal involvement and trust and providing feedback and coaching to help develop others</li> <li>Ability to provide effective advice to senior leaders</li> <li>Able to conceptualize and analyze complex business problems and issues</li> <li>Ability to create, develop and implement new ideas and strategies</li> <li>Strong project management skills and proven track record of accomplishments</li> <li>Ability to work complex projects through channels with different objectives</li> <li>Significant ability to influence outcome with shared commitment</li> <li>Ability to build a network of support from people at corporate and unit levels</li> <li>Strong interpersonal and leadership skills</li> </ul>
