Overview:
Founded by a baker and mechanical engineer (yes, both), Georgette Packaging is not your typical startup. We’re a female-led, Kitchener/Waterloo startup backed by Y Combinator, the world’s most commercially successful accelerator program. We are on a mission to empower companies to use their packaging not as a wrapper but as a solution. We work with our clients to design and print high-quality, customized packaging to act as a tactile and tangible marketing tool. One that becomes recognizable and coveted for what’s inside.

Our goal is to help incredibly ambitious food and beverage brands to create iconic packaging. We are growing our creative space and building out a Design Centre. We want to deepen the way we work with our clients; we want to be able to walk them through a graphic representation of how we are creative and innovative; why our custom packaging and detailed printing process is the ultimate choice to showcase and display their creations. It’s not just about a cool cup or box; it’s about the tactile nature of experiencing a product. We want to be a full service solution provider for our clients and it starts with a pencil and paper. That’s where you come in. We need a Graphic Designer!

Responsibilities:
Who we need

Our mission is to artfully and strategically grow our clients’ businesses through brand exposure and recognition. We need an artist. Someone who understands that brand recognition goes beyond a logo, and is a visual trigger for a memory or a positive emotion. (Ideally, a yearning for a cupcake, donut or cappuccino.)

This is a chance for a Graphic Designer who wants to be both artist, consultant and entrepreneur. It’s a chance to work face-to-face (well, virtually face-to-face) with clients to interpret - and yes, often re-interpret - their words, their business goals, their passion - into a well thought out packaging solution. It’s a chance to be the go-to person internally for the fun stuff like notebook covers, party invitations, wallpaper and t-shirts. It’s an opportunity to grow out the design centre into a profitable one-stop shop for our clients - and as a key part of our business that attracts newer, bigger clients. It’s an opportunity for someone with a natural artistic ability, an eye for detail, excellent visual taste and more concepts than their portfolio can hold. A Graphic Designer who isn’t precious about their work, respects the input of others and can create multiple iterations for a single product or idea.

In return, we can offer you the chance to work side-by-side with our CEO and Founder as well as our marketing team, learning how to grow a business and the details of printing and manufacturing packaging. This is a market valued at $130 billion US - the skills you learn here will be invaluable. This is an opportunity to join a scaling company with a bit of a food obsession. From around-the-world dumpling tastings and potlucks to ramen nights and beach parties, we come together as a team to celebrate and grow together.

Requirements:
So how do we know you are the new Graphic Designer for us? You have:

An artist. You make art with paint, clay, pencils, software, paper, metal and more. You want to be part of a culture where you are encouraged to take design risks, be creative, and propose incredible ideas. You take the time to truly understand what is being asked of you. You can both defend your choices, incorporate the opinions of others and make changes as often as necessary - happily - to satisfy the needs of our clients.

A collaborator. You understand that designing is not a solo sport. You will work closely with our clients, our sales and marketing teams and our CEO to design fantastic packaging that will be loved by their customers and help the company grow through brand exposure.

An innovator. You will explore many different solutions using whiteboards, sketches and different materials to come up with the best possible solution for our clients. You will use your creative mind, your design eye, and your printing knowledge to explore a broad spectrum of possibilities.

An entrepreneur. You want to grow your career and increase your own exposure. You want to gain recognition as a key player on a team that designs and produces highly recognizable, quirky, customized packaging people talk about. You want to work with clients and see the results of your efforts all over social media as their consumers post photos of your work.

Why take the next step in your career with Georgette Packaging:

Everyone here is passionate about beautiful, custom design that you can touch and feel. Not a single one of us are trained graphic designers. But we know good work when we see it; we appreciate fine art and we understand the power of a refined, embossed, raised logo on powder soft paper surrounding a delectable treat. We also have a dream that one day someone here will make the lickable wallpaper from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory come to life in our office.

If you want to work on unique, possibly iconic, designs for our clients and you want the freedom to run around with a paintbrush in the office, we want to speak with you.

Apply now or check out our website and blog for more information.

Georgette Packaging welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities.
